Presenting the Funds from Alianza: Fundación Socioambiental Semilla ?? (Espa?ol abajo) In Bolivia, one of the most megadiverse countries in the world, local communities play a vital role in preserving vast territories that stretch from the Andes to the Amazon. Within this rich context of biodiversity and culture, the Fundación Semilla was founded in 2019 to strengthen these communities and protect their lands and natural resources. With a focus on valuing ancestral knowledge and community leadership, Semilla believes that solutions to environmental challenges must come from within the communities themselves. By promoting sustainability and responsible resource management, the foundation helps build a more equitable and balanced future for all. ?? As Eduardo Franco Berton, President of Semilla, puts it: "Our commitment to the socio-environmental cause, proximity to the territories, and understanding of their issues, enable a greater capacity for comprehension and action by the local funds within this alliance, in favor of conserving the biomes that sustain our lives and the sustainable development of the communities that call these places home." Semilla's work reinforces that true impact happens when those who intimately know the land they inhabit lead the efforts for preservation and development. Soon, the fund will be launching its first newsletter. Socio-Environmental Funds of the Global South Alliance
关于我们
The Alianza brings together independent socio-environmental funds from across the global South.? Each Fondo del Sur is a nationally or regionally based entity dedicated to providing grants and other forms of support to local grassroots organizations proposing just and sustainable alternatives to protect communities’ rights and ecosystems in different countries and regions of the Global South. All Alianza member Funds were founded by local socio-environmentalists who believe the only way to protect our planet is to make timely resources available to the communities that face the brunt of environmental devastation. Funding the protectors: What we have in common is that these activist funds understand how the most vulnerable populations facing environmental challenges are also the most excluded, have their rights constantly violated, and are mostly invisible to philanthropy. Therefore each group came together inside each country, to create independently run national, and/or regional, level funding structures, each responsible for mobilizing resources from multiple sources, and defining appropriate mechanisms to make sure grants are made directly to grassroots communities.? Collective and participatory decision-making structures hold country teams accountable to provide direct strategic grants in local currency to local groups which otherwise would have minimal chances to access any other type of philanthropic resources.?? Supporting large funders: Local funds also serve as bridge that support larger funders who understand the importance of coordinated grassroots funding to access these local communities in a careful way.

?? "I believe we all come from spaces where what we've seen or what we've been conditioned to do, for example, in monitoring and evaluation, is not something we agree with. It's not something that proves right or useful. The question we need to ask ourselves is: useful for whom? Is it useful to prove that we are doing something, that we are changing something, but what is really changing? Are we changing?” — Daniela Cevallos Serrano, Fundación ?eque Ecuador, Alianza’s fund member. (Espa?ol abajo) We invite you to watch this video, produced from the #MeasuringWhatMatters meeting, part of the #ShiftThePower movement. The event, held in July 2024 in Indonesia, brought together members of the community of practice on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). Filmed by Michael Vincent Mercado of the Center for Disaster Preparedness in the Philippines, the meeting aimed to deepen the collective reflections of the learning group on current M&E practices and explore alternatives that truly matter. This is a crucial discussion for redefining what it means to measure impact and effectiveness in the context of our communities. Daniela's important remarks invite us to consider a fairer and more effective approach in the work of NGOs and social movements, where collaboration and understanding of local realities are fundamental. Join us in this conversation and help promote the change we all wish to see. ?? Watch the video below! |ES| ?? ?? "Seeds for Harvest": spotlighting funding trends for gender, climate, and environmental justice (Espa?ol abajo) We are excited to share the report "Seeds for Harvest: Funding for gender, climate, and environmental justice" by Global Greengrants Fund, Prospera International Network of Women's Funds, Human Rights Funders Network (HRFN), and Global Alliance For Green And Gender Action (GAGGA), offering powerful insights into funding for gender, climate, and environmental justice work. The report reveals critical data on the underrepresentation and underfunding these groups face: ? Only 1.2% of the $4.1B in human rights funding in 2019 went to initiatives connecting gender, climate, and environment. ? Funding remained low globally, with a significant gap in the Global South—from just 1% in Eastern Europe and Central Asia to 6% in Latin America and the Caribbean. Hope and resilience are renewed through emerging, groundbreaking initiatives that are closing gaps and increasing flows. Local socio-environmental funds are cited as key, with ?????????????? portrayed as a relevant system-change actor. "Seeds for Harvest" also offers practical recommendations for funders, including mobilizing multi-year, flexible resources, eliminating funding silos, and investing in feminist climate movement infrastructure to enhance impact. ??Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dt3XfEXF |ES| ??
