We HONOR college seniors and community members who demonstrate a commitment to serving others through annual awards at 70 college and university campuses. We offer financial SUPPORT through our partner universities to deserving students who are personally invested in building a better world in their communities. We EDUCATE young people and faculty to harness the power of civic innovation and social entrepreneurship in tackling difficult societal issues in their communities. The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation also hosts the twice-yearly #IgniteRetreats for students interested in social entrepreneurship as well as twice-yearly Social Entrepreneurship Field Trips to cities with a strong social-enterprise sector.

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation hosts retreats for its Sullivan Fellows—students who demonstrate strong leadership skills and the potential to positively impact their communities. Over Summer 2024 the Foundation hosted one of its most significant retreats yet, a two-week study abroad opportunity in San Jose, Costa Rica. Two of the Lees-McRae Sullivan Fellows, junior Business Administration major Matthew Knafelz and senior Special Education major Bea Adams, participated in the trip. They studied social entrepreneurship, connected with entrepreneurs and fellow students in Costa Rica, and expanded their world views to help them become better changemakers in their own communities. https://ow.ly/I6xr50U7p8U

This past weekend proved to be among the most memorable in my life. I was named the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award winner by the University of South Carolina Alumni Association. This award recognizes the work that Grainne Owen and I have done in creating Curing Kids Cancer - and raising nearly $30 million for pediatric cancer research. The University of South Carolina provided me with an incredible foundation for my professional career. Both my family and Grainne's family taught us the importance of giving back to our communities. And of course, the tragic loss of our nine-year-old son Killian to leukemia, spurred our desire to find new cures for childhood cancer. Thanks to everyone at (the real) USC and to all of the staff and supporters of Curing Kids Cancer. Without you, none of this happens. Also, the win over #10 Texas A&M at Homecoming made it all the sweeter.
