ALFDP’s mission is to act as a catalyst for the advancement of diversity in the legal profession through our collective knowledge, vision, expertise and advocacy in the area of law firm diversity. Founded in January 2006, the Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals (ALFDP) is a not-for-profit association of law firm professionals working in the area of diversity. ALFDP’s mission is to act as a catalyst for the advancement of diversity in the legal profession through our collective knowledge, vision, expertise and advocacy in the arena of law firm diversity. As a collaborative organization, we work towards the common goals of advancing diversity within our own organizations and within the legal profession as a whole by sharing important information and experiences, and learning from one another.

  • As we observe International Women's Day 2025 today, we join together to Accelerate Action for gender equality across all industries. At ALFDP: The Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals, we proudly honor the incredible contributions of women, particularly within the legal sector, where diversity professionals are driving meaningful change and advocating for inclusivity at every level. While gender parity is still a distant goal – estimated to take until 2158 at the current rate of progress – we remain committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the legal profession. Law firm diversity professionals play a pivotal role in ensuring that not only gender equity is achieved, but that all voices are heard, valued, and respected in the workplace. As we reflect on the progress made, we are also mindful of the ongoing challenges in DEI efforts. However, with urgency and solidarity, we are confident that together, we can accelerate change and create a more inclusive future for the next generation of legal professionals. A few of our ALFDP board and committee members strike the #AccelerateAction pose to exemplify this commitment—advancing gender equity and driving the culture of inclusion in law firms. From the arts and sciences to law and business, their impact is immeasurable. This month provides an opportunity not only to honor their legacy but also to confront the work that still remains. At the ALFDP: The Association of Law Firm Diversity Professionals, we recognize that the fight for equality and justice is ongoing, and it’s more important than ever to continue celebrating Black history – not just in February but year-round. Right now, diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts are facing increased scrutiny and opposition. As law firm diversity professionals, we are uniquely positioned to drive positive change in our organizations and communities. By supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, we ensure that the voices and experiences of Black professionals are elevated and heard. In a time when diversity, equity, and inclusion work is under attack, we must double down on our commitment to inclusion and make space for the stories that have long been overlooked.   • We are proud to support the third iteration of A Portrait of Asian Americans in the Law 2.0, a critical study by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and American Bar Foundation on minority lawyer attrition in law firms. Building on insights from previous surveys that highlighted the experiences of Asian American lawyers, this iteration broadens the scope to include all backgrounds who have worked or are currently working in law firms, offering valuable data on the broader issue of attrition across the legal profession.   • As we reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this January 20, we are reminded of his unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and the power of unity in the face of adversity. Dr. King’s vision for a more inclusive and equitable society continues to resonate, especially in these challenging times when the work of DEI professionals is more critical than ever. However, we find ourselves in a moment when the very principles Dr. King championed are under attack. Efforts to roll back progress on racial justice, equality, and inclusive practices have intensified across the country. From restrictions on DEI programs in education and the workplace to legislative battles that undermine protections for marginalized communities, the fight for inclusion has never been more urgent.
