#climateweek The Alfandre Architecture office building, located on Main Street in New Paltz, Ulster County, New York, opened in May of 2014.?This near net-zero-energy all electric building was LEED Platinum in 2015 and again in 2019.?In addition to Alfandre Architecture’s offices the building has 4 other tenants: a registered dietitian nutritionist, an attorney, an engineering company that specializes in water resources, and a building performance green building rating contractor.?For the first several years the building generated more energy from the 130 solar panels on the roofs than it used.?Over time more computers and other “plug loads” have been added.?Therefore, in the winter we pay for a small amount of electricity.?In addition to the high performance and healthy character of the building the parking lot is paved with a porous brick paving system which allows the rainwater to permeate directly into the ground.?Further, 231 Main has a rainwater harvesting system where the rainwater is used to flush toilets and irrigate the landscape.?The roof system, which includes fully insulated panels and glue laminated timbers, was engineered, manufactured and erected by Bensonwood, and took 2 ? days to complete.

This LEED-certified 3,500-square-foot bank serves as a flagship branch of M&T Bank. Sustainable goals were implemented from the initial schematic designs to reduce the bank’s carbon footprint. Alfandre Architecture acted as the LEED consultant to help the building achieve certification. A 6,500 square foot office building we designed to fit snugly into a tough in-fill site. We also shepherded the project through the planning board approval processes. Circa 2005. Two photos. Designed as a modern interpretation of a vernacular New York home, this house is heated and cooled with a horizontal loop, water to air, ground source heat pump system (also known as geothermal). Heat recovery ventilation and high MERV (very small particles) air filtration round out the HVAC system. The design is passive solar oriented as the long fa?ade faces solar south, with large windows evoking the space and light of the former creamery that the clients were living in prior to building new.?The walls and roof are super insulated with dense pack cellulose insulation.?The exterior is clad with a?very durable, insect and fire resistant, fiber cement siding.?The great room includes vaulted ceilings and a sealed combustion gas fireplace.?In addition to the great room the first floor is fitted out with a full chef’s kitchen, dining area, full bathroom, study and laundry room The second floor includes a full master bedroom suite with two more bedrooms and a full bathroom.?The home is located in the hamlet of Accord in the Town of Rochester, Ulster County, New York. #geothermal #passivesolar # superinsulated #vernaculararchitecture #hudsonvalley #ulstercounty #highperformance #healthybuilding
