Aloha, Hawai’i!? We are now offering our real-time wildfire coverage throughout all of the islands! It’s an honor to be of service and join you in your fight against wildfires.? Last year, we watched in horror as Lahaina suffered what so many of us have experienced in Santa Rosa, Paradise, Talent, Greenville, and countless other towns in the West.? We are all learning to come to grips with a problem that isn’t going away anytime soon, but neither are we. We created Watch Duty, a non-profit organization, because we live under the ever-present threat of wildfire, and more and more of us are experiencing the need for real-time information.? Our service, which will always remain free, follows the newly deployed wildfire cameras from ALERTWest that are integrated directly into Watch Duty.? All of this functionality gives you the ability to track and monitor wildfires in real-time, all in one place, on either iOS, Android, or your web browser.? Mahalo.

Happy #FieldWorkFriday! Although it’s October, fire season is not over. Our cameras continue to detect and monitor wildfires, bringing vital visual information from the field to responders across Oregon. This video shows the Pine Mountain, Green Mountain, Powell Butte, and Wagontire cameras watching the #PineFire on October 7. You can also observe fire activity from multiple cameras by creating a tileset like this! Just go to alertwest.live and draw a polygon around your preferred cameras. You will be taken to a new page that displays camera feeds from those selected sites simultaneously. You can bookmark this page and return to it at any time. Learn more about how to use ALERTWest software at www.youtube.com/@ALERTWest.

Thank you, John Engel, for hosting a great webinar with utility experts on how #AI is advancing wildfire prevention and mitigation. The discussion highlighted the crucial role advanced technology can play and the cost-effectiveness and speed at which it can be deployed. As Andrew Abranches shared, we currently work closely with Pacific Gas and Electric Company, other utilities, fire agencies, and additional partners across California and 7 other states to help enhance situational awareness and accelerate wildfire response. With over 1,400 AI-driven cameras deployed, ALERTWest enables faster fire detection—often before 911 in remote areas—and provides precise location data. Real-time camera control allows visual confirmation of new ignitions within seconds, enabling more informed resource allocations when minutes matter. Andy also mentioned our brand-new camera solution that was designed with the budgets of smaller municipal utilities and cooperatives in mind. This system provides similar functionality to our current camera solution but at 3-5x lower cost and it can be quickly installed on infrastructure with minimal to no permitting—often within just a few hours. More on this coming soon! Our ALERTWest team has been significantly impacted by catastrophic wildfires, and we are ALL-IN on developing cutting-edge, cost-effective AI-driven situational awareness tools for communities of all sizes, to help protect lives, property and the environment. If you’re curious to see the system in action, you can view all the camera feeds at www.ALERTWest.live (minus AI and alerts - authorized users only) and on our partner Watch Duty’s free mobile app, which I highly recommend downloading for real-time updates on emerging wildfires in your area. Sr. Director - Wildfire Preparedness and Operations at Pacific Gas and Electric Company

Participated in an online panel for a virtual press briefing regarding AI in the Utility space. Organized and facilitated by the United States Energy Association I was surprised by the questions about the concerns, vs questions about the potential. I see so much promise and potential for benefit. My view is shaped by what is already in place. Here are a few examples: 1. 1500 Pacific Gas and Electric Company weather stations that ALREADY have AI capabilities and use the AI models to do a forward prediction of wind speed, wind gusts, temperature, and relative humidity. 2. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company machine learning based Fire Potential Index model that does a 7 day look across a vast service territory. Crunching 1 trillion data points daily for a very granular prediction. 3. The 1200 AI enabled Wildfire Cameras in the ALERTWest and ALERTCalifornia systems providing state of the art wildfire detection capability keeping communities across California safe every day. 4. The 10,000 AI capable Gridware devices that are providing real time monitoring today in locations with some of the highest tree density in the PG&E system. 5. Technosylva advanced simulation capabilities that California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and all three California IOU’s (Southern California Edison (SCE), San Diego Gas & Electric and Pacific Gas and Electric Company) reply of for fire spread modeling and wildfire risk modeling. 6. Satellite data from Planet that goes into ML models for operational risk models and long term planning risk models. 7. Vegetation Management analytics companies like Overstory that take vast amounts of satellite data and using AI and ML process it into actionable information for utilities. 8. Next generation SmartMeters from companies like Itron, Inc. and Hubbell Power Systems that are taking AI approaches to determine, pinpoint and predict weak spots in the distribution grid for proactive repair.

Happy #FieldWorkFriday! Oregon Hazards Lab field technicians deployed a new wildfire camera this week. The Glenada camera is located on a telecommunications tower near Florence and gives firefighters another tool for detecting and monitoring wildfires in the Coast Range. Our employees complete extensive safety training that equips them to climb hundreds of feet above the forest floor to install cameras and telemetry devices like microwave dishes. The Glenada camera feed will be live soon at alertwest.live!
