Update: all new cameras are now online. With a major atmospheric river projected to hit Southern California this week, ALERTCalifornia's field team has been working hard to install 7 new cameras around Los Angeles to help emergency managers monitor potential debris flows from the Eaton and Palisades burn scars. The Bailey Canyon 1 & 2, Sierra Madre Canyon 1 & 2, and Sierra Madre Bridge cameras are already online for the the Eaton Fire scar. Cloudcroft 1 & 2 cameras will be online soon for the Palisades Fire scar. Search camera names at https://lnkd.in/gQKjvHHb to see their locations.

In collaboration with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), NV5 is releasing high-resolution lidar data for the areas affected by the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles County. This valuable data, collected in January 2025, is now publicly accessible via the USGS's 2025 Post-Wildfire Lidar Data platform, https://lnkd.in/g7bDFiGk. Sponsored by ALERTCalifornia and UC San Diego, this initiative emphasizes the importance of advanced technology in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. ?? Key Impact Areas: - Mapping changes in terrain and vegetation density - Assessing burn severity over time - Identifying risks of debris flows and flooding #WildfireResponse #DisasterManagement #LidarData #Geospatial #NV5
NV5 and USGS release lidar-derived data of Palisades Fire and Eaton fire burn areas to the public. Sponsored by the University of San Diego California, NV5 is providing a .5 meter Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and Digital Surface Model (DSM) for public use at no charge, with access being provided courtesy of USGS's website. The provisional lidar data was collected January 21- January 22, 2025, and the derived products can be used to analyze the devastating fire's impact and provide insights for damage assessment, which is critical for recovery and rebuilding efforts, as well as for better understanding potential hazards due to debris from the fire. Thank you to The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for acknowledging ALERTCalifornia's efforts in a recent newsletter. This means so much to our team of scientists. Recognition like this is both heartening and motivating as we continue to collect data and provide camera feeds to assist emergency managers and communities during the ongoing impacts of the tragic fires in Southern California and into the future.

A great morning of presentations: The morning began with Scott Gregory, MBA and I speaking to FEMA on how #CALFIRE is leveraging technology in crisis communications including our use of ALERTCalifornia and our valuable partnership with UC San Diego. I then had the privilege of participating as a panel member for the #ClimateWeek NYC: “Communicating Disaster Preparedness” to discuss the ongoing work California is doing to mitigate the threat of wildfires and the important role community members play in prevention. Thank you to Justin ángel Knighten for the invitation!
