    Should executive compensation be tied to #DEI targets? 📰 This story by Courtney Vinopal discusses some of the trends and how they are impacted by the recent #ExecutiveOrders and the attacks against corporate DEI: https://lnkd.in/dWcfNuSs 🎓 Professor Ifedapo Adeleye, PhD of Georgetown University is quoted as saying “Organizations can still go about doing this, but they have to now be very careful about what the goals are,” and “the consensus around it is that most [organizations] will be adjusting some of the metrics that they use”. 💡 Companies need to learn to measure the right metrics at the right level. Accountability only makes sense when the metrics are based on factors that can be influence directly by those held accountable. ⚡ My team and I have already shown how to measure inclusion, and I have started writing about how to also measure merit in a way that makes sense and that can be used to hold people accountable. ✉️ Drop me a line if you want to learn more.

    In June of 2024 Alexandr Wang published a post introducing #MEI - merit, excellence and intelligence - as a driving principle to insure that Scale AI will remain a #meritocracy. The anti-DEI movement rallied around the notion of MEI as the antithesis of #DEI, with vocal support from the likes of #ElonMusk and #DonaldTrump. In this article I take a closer look at MEI and draw important conclusions: 💡 Without metrics, MEI as described by Wang fits the definition of an #ideology: "a 'coherent system of ideas' that rely on a few basic assumptions about reality that may or may not have any factual basis." 💡If you strip out the polarizing rhetoric, DEI and MEI supporters fundamentally want the same thing: a true #meritocracy where all employees can thrive and jointly create more successful organizations, regardless of their identity. Let's stop the rhetoric and start focusing on facts that can be backed by data.
