A piece earlier this month by Hannah Wallace in Reasons to be Cheerful caught our eye—particularly the focus on Maine, a state that doesn’t always get the spotlight in climate conversations but is making big moves in #heatpump adoption. Maine, once heavily dependent on oil, is now leading the nation in heat pump adoption—tripling installations in the past decade. Thanks to strong incentives and bipartisan support, the state hit its 2025 goal two years early and now aims to install 175,000 more by 2027. ? Saves households $662/year on heating costs ? Reduces emissions with 70% of Maine’s electricity from renewables ? Provides cooling as summers get hotter Despite uncertainty over federal funding, Maine is pushing forward. Smart climate policies certainly can drive real change. ??? ?? Great opportunity for more states to follow suit. Last week, like much of the world, we took note of Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), the world’s main standard setter for corporate climate targets, reaffirming its commitment to holding companies accountable to the 1.5°C trajectory. Yet, new analysis fromMorningstar Sustainalytics found that no company with SBTi targets is fully aligned with 1.5°C—with most actually tracking between 2°C and 2.5°C. The gap between stated commitments and actual impact is widening, reinforcing the urgency to shift from target-setting to meaningful emissions cuts. ?? To accelerate progress, SBTi is calling for low-carbon electricity by 2040 and urging high-income countries to go beyond minimum requirements. Let’s go, U.S.! With global warming projected to hit 3.1°C under current policies, this is the moment for business leaders to step up and drive real climate action…yes, sooner vs. later. #SBTi #ClimateLeadership #NetZero #CorporateClimateAction

A new Boston Consulting Group (BCG) report in collaboration with the University of Cambridge's climaTRACES Lab and Cambridge Judge Business School reinforces what we’ve commented on before —climate tech innovation and smart investments are key to protecting global GDP and driving economic resilience. The analysis projects that, without action, climate change could shrink global GDP by up to 34% by 2100. But scaling climate investments—9x in mitigation and 13x in adaptation by 2050—isn’t just necessary, it’s a massive economic opportunity. Thanks to Mizy Judah Clifton from SEMAFOR for the spotlight on this new report. ?? What an incredible couple of days at the MIT Energy Conference, surrounded by brilliant minds, bold ideas, and transformative solutions shaping the future of energy and climate. ???? A huge shoutout to Andrew Grabowski, Sofia Karagianni and Allison Kammert for their hard work in bringing this event to life—honored to be part of it! ?? A few notable gems that really stuck with us: ?? "Be a champion for your category, not just your company—this is the tide that will rise all boats." – Curtis Tongue, Renew Home (yup, collaboration, not competition, will drive industry-wide progress!) ?? "Modifying your story for different audiences is key"– Emma Rodvien (As marketers, we can’t reiterate enough that tailoring your message is critical for climate solutions to scale.) ??? "As scientists, we need sandboxes—both to build and to prove climate solutions." – Peter Ellis, The Nature Conservancy. (Agreed-the best innovations need space to test, iterate, and scale before the world catches up.) ?? "AI is in the air you breathe—if you're not using AI, you're not a modern company." – David Miller, Clean Energy Ventures (We’ve said this before: AI isn’t a nice-to-have anymore—it’s table stakes in climate tech.) ?? "The world needs two things in the coming decades: 1. Certainty of impact. 2. Scale of impact. And we need to make these solutions accessible and affordable." – Randy Spock, Google. (Agreed!) ?? "It doesn’t have to be either/or in climate innovation” -Peter Ellis and Randy Spock added, “People too often think of climate solutions as binary…it’s really more about a spectrum” (We say this often to our clients: the climate crisis is too big for this vs. that, it really is a combination of things all working together for positive impact.) ?? "Celebrate iterative success—you don’t have to go from 0 to 100 out of the gate." – Christina McPike, WinnCompanies (Without question.) ?? "We have to think about impact in a human way—in addition to saving money or carbon, how does it actually help people?" – Tanya Barham, Community Energy Labs. (Couldn't agree more!) Our final thoughts: From scaling innovation to redefining storytelling, one theme was clear: climate solutions must be built for real-world impact. Awesome few days. So glad to have been a part of it. What insights resonated most with you? #MITEnergyConf2025 #EnergyInnovation #SustainableFuture #MIT

?? Student-led climate and energy conferences aren’t just about discussion—they’re driving real action. With a greater focus on impact, engagement, and inclusivity, these events are shifting from traditional speaker-driven formats to dynamic, solution-oriented experiences. We spoke with two changemakers leading this transformation: ??Andrew Grabowski (Massachusetts Institute of Technology SDM Fellow) is advancing sustainable aviation and climate tech, organizing the MIT Energy Conference and Zero Impact Aviation Alliance to bridge research with real-world deployment. ??Mallory Furlong (University of Toronto) is tackling eco-anxiety and social sustainability, leading initiatives like Climate Crisis Café to help students process the emotional toll of the climate crisis and take action. Their insights show that when students lead, conferences evolve—bringing new voices, fresh solutions, and a stronger sense of community. ?? How do you see the role of students shaping the future of climate action? If the current state of politics and news in the U.S. has you feeling frozen, angry, or hopeless, you're not imagining it. Our brains are wired for survival mode, keeping us stuck in stress rather than action. And that’s by design—it stops us from doing what we’re here to do: change the world. But what if you could recognize these triggers and learn a practical tool to break free from survival mode? Our good friend and incredible transformational expert Laurie McGinley is hosting a free event designed to give you: ? A simple understanding of the neuroscience behind your reactions ? A tool to use when you feel overwhelmed ? A pathway to feeling better, thinking clearer, and reclaiming your power Fear-based narratives want to keep us stuck. This is your chance to push back, reset, and move forward. If you’re here to make a difference, join us and learn how to shift from survival to action. ?? Commercial EV fleets are up against new tariffs, stricter quality control, and increasing domestic compliance requirements—especially when serving U.S. government customers like airports and city transit systems. And the stakes are only getting higher. Alder is working with Endera, who is revolutionizing the specialty vehicle industry by integrating best-in-class vehicles, charging platforms, and proprietary fleet management software into an all-in-one seamless solution. Their approach brings simplicity, accountability, and keeps more manufacturing and jobs here in America—all while accelerating the transition to clean mobility. And they’re just getting started. #EVs #Cleantransportation #FleetInnovation #electricbuses

Just when avoiding import tariffs is key, electric shuttle and school bus company Endera, which touts its high U.S. content wins major investor support. Great conversation with founder and CEO John Walsh about Endera's Buy American qualification and how Endera it will use this new money to expand. #EV #sustainability
