I was at the Reginald Lewis Museum watching their Veterans Day screen of In Freedom’s Name: Maryland’s Black Men and Women and Their Defense of Liberty, when much to my surprise I saw our friend and colleague Major General Janeen Birckhead providing the introductory remarks. On this Veterans Day, I’m feeling especially proud to know Major General Birckhead, Sharon Moore, and Alfranda "Al" Durr and all the other Team ALD vets who I have the honor of working with. Let’s use this day for continued learning and organizing. —Dr. Davis #VeteransDay2024 #VeteransDay???? #InclusiveMilitary #EquityInArmedForces

A major part of each person's culture is defined by their socioeconomic status. ?? As leaders, it's important for us to understand the effects of an individual's socioeconomic status on their lives. How you grew up, whether poor or rich, whether comfortable or hungry, colors how you see the world and how you respond to stimuli.? ? Part of making sure that your workplace is accepting is making sure that we understand that socioeconomic background is yet another diversity dimension that enhances your team. ?? Because those who you serve often come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, having employees who understand those backgrounds can go a long way to making your business more in tune with them. ??? ? #SocioeconomicDiversity #Leadership #DEI #WorkplaceInclusion #Diversity? ?

? Cultural awareness is simply good business. There's a sense among those who don't understand DEI that it is somehow a feel-good, unnecessary way of running a business. ???? Whether you have a shop in New York City that caters to customers from all over the world or you run a multinational conglomerate with offices in 100 countries, you are serving a global community. ?? Understanding the cultures that you are engaging with allows you to better serve those customers. The better the service, the more brand loyalty you'll have...which helps your bottom line.??? Being culturally aware and responsive to the cultures that your business interacts with is an important way to ensure that you are able to keep up with and stay tuned to what's on your customers' minds and what's happening in their world. ??? ? How do you foster cultural awareness in your business? ??? #CulturalAwareness #DEI #GoodBusiness #CustomerService #ClientEngagement?

Alfranda "Al" Durr is excited to share that he will be a panelist for the USDA/FNS Diversity Panel Discussion, moderated by FNS's Michelle Davis. He'll be joining three other distinguished DEIA practitioners—Dr. Dopico, Dr. Wilkes, and Katie Manderson—as we discuss how organizations can create inclusive environments that respect and value all individuals, regardless of their background or identity. During this session, we will explore real-world challenges in the DEIA space and provide actionable strategies for fostering diversity and inclusion within organizations. I look forward to contributing to this important conversation and sharing insights that can help drive meaningful change. #DEIA #Diversity #Inclusion #Leadership #USDA #PanelDiscussion #AlDurr

We are committed to giving back!!
Never underestimate the power of giving back. I had the incredible opportunity to speak at a class at George Mason University earlier today, and I left feeling inspired. The students' willingness to share their ideas, their enthusiasm, and their commitment to shaping a brighter future reminded me of our collective responsibility to invest in the next generation of leaders. I am grateful for the chance to give back and be part of their journey. Here's to continuing to build, grow, and learn together! #Leadership #Mentorship #GivingBack #FutureLeaders #Inspiration https://lnkd.in/esziMdVy

Measuring the success of your DEI initiatives is important for proving their usefulness. There are many ways to track your progress, and the methods you use will depend on your organization's goals. ??? ? 1. Diversity metrics: Review workforce demographics to understand who is being hired, staying, and the longevity of each employee.? 2. Employee surveys: Ask your employees how they feel about your DEI initiatives and if they feel these efforts are improving the workplace. ??? 3. Belonging index: Create an index that measures employees' sense of belonging in the workplace. This can be done through surveys and then averaging the results.? 4. Auditing equity: Evaluate your policies and practices for potential biases and disparate impact. ??? 5. Retention rates: Use demographic information to analyze turnover rates. If a particular group seems to be exiting more quickly, there might be a bias in your organization.? 6. Training participation: Track participation in your DEI training programs, including attendance and test scores.? ? DEI initiatives, like any other initiative, can be measured, but it will take time and effort to set up the specific KPIs to do so correctly.? ? What metrics do you use to measure your DEI initiatives? ??? ? #DEI #Metrics #SuccessMeasurement #WorkplaceInclusion #Equity?
