For many families we serve, especially those led by grandparents taking on the role of caregivers, every Holiday Help gift counts. Last year, a grandparent caring for a child with special needs could finally focus on essentials because of the gifts purchased from our Amazon Wishlist. By giving her grandchild a joyful holiday, we also helped her redirect funds toward things like groceries and utilities. When our community steps up, the support goes so much further than a holiday present. Click our wishlist link below to make a meaningful difference this season! https://lnkd.in/eFkzTwED

Did you know that many of our wishlist items are the essentials—sheets, clothes, and undergarments—things many families find hard to afford? For foster parents, kinship caregivers, and families who are struggling, the cost of basics can mean putting other needs on hold. Last year, our community came together to meet these requests, allowing families to feel supported and seen. Every Amazon Wishlist gift shows our kids that they’re cared for and supported by their community. Together, we can make a difference—one thoughtful gift at a time. Will you purchase one of these essential items for our kids? Check out our Amazon wishlist at https://lnkd.in/eFkzTwED

Meet our Board of Directors: Jordan Troutman joined the Alcovy CASA board in 2024. “Having begun my career as a social worker,” says Jordan, “Alcovy CASA provides the opportunity to support an organization dear to my heart. In addition, I can affect the lives of parents, youth, and the community in a most meaningful way. After completing a successful service project with Alcovy CASA through Leadership Newton, I knew Alcovy CASA would allow me to fuel my why. I am grateful to be able to support such an amazing organization and a staple in Newton County.” We are grateful for all the support Jordan provides!

Sometimes, the perfect gift is more than just a present—it’s a way to make a young person feel seen and valued. Last year during our Holiday Help event, one of our local teens requested goth-themed gifts (she loves all things dark and edgy). Thanks to a sponsor who went all in, selecting each item with her unique style in mind, we knew these gift would bring a huge smile to her face. In trauma-informed giving, we respect that some moments are best kept private, but we can still feel the impact: a young person knows that someone out there cares about her individuality. This holiday season, you can create a moment like this by choosing a gift from our Amazon Wishlist. Let’s come together as a community to support one another! Meet our Board of Directors: Anessa Westmoreland joined the Alcovy CASA Board in 2023 while looking for a way to give back to the community. She had first-hand knowledge of the importance of a CASA from working in the juvenile justice system. Anessa is currently employed with Covington-Newton County 911 as the 911 Operations Manager. We are grateful for Anessa and all of the ways she supports Alcovy CASA!

Meet our Board of Directors: Scott Tredeau is the Publisher of The NEWTON Community Magazine. He joined our Board in 2023. “I joined because our youth are our biggest asset. And Alcovy CASA is able to catch the ones that fall through the cracks. I want to be a part of that.” We are grateful for Scott and all the ways he supports Alcovy CASA!

We are incredibly grateful to Newton Federal and their support! Each year, they create a beautiful cookbook filled with recipes from their staff and the community. We were honored to be chosen as the recipient of this year's cookbook donations. Thank you for investing in the recruitment, training and support of our volunteers who advocate for children experiencing foster care!

One of the most important things our staff can do at Alcovy CASA is support and retain our volunteers. Consistency is a hallmark of our program: when a child experiencing foster care has a consistent Court Appointed Special Advocate, they are more likely to receive all the support and services they need while in the child welfare system. Each month we reflect on the volunteers celebrating a "CASA-Versary"- the anniversary of the date they were first sworn in as Alcovy CASA Volunteers! Please join us in thanking and celebrating the following volunteers for their years of service with our program. Celebrating 1 Year of Service: Belinda Robinson Tammy van Dongen Celebrating 2 Years of Service: Heather Hartmann Mike Ulrich Celebrating 3 Years of Service: Seranita Fuller Kelly Marchman Angela Spencer Denise Thomas And a special thank you to Aimee Gartner, who began as a CASA Volunteer 3 years ago and has now transitioned to our Board Chair!
