This is a great paper outlining what community health advocates and leaders already know: it is the 'long tail' of community-based safety net providers on the frontlines that provide the comprehensive, interrelated services America's most vulnerable populations need to access healthcare. And 340B is a critical source of funding that enables safety net clinics to sustain these services. To expand access to care for our most vulnerable, there is a long list of important services safety net clinics provide alongside traditional clinical care: preventive health services, support for non-English speaking populations, and services incorporating the health related social needs of unhoused, low-income, and uninsured/underinsured individuals, to name but a few. This is where the 340B program comes in. These services are under-reimbursed, underfunded, or unfunded by insurance, grants, and limited state & federal resources. The 340B drug program fills these funding gaps to ensure safety net clinics can provide reliable and comprehensive services for these populations and advance the public health mission for the benefit of all Americans, all without the use of taxpayer funds and targeted to the safety net providers doing the work on the ground. https://lnkd.in/eqzJ_P6d #340b #sdoh #defend340b Alchemy
