Ten years ago today, following the ardent advocacy of a coalition of local organizations and residents, the City of Sacramento adopted the Urban Agriculture Ordinance. In many ways, it is hard to imagine a time before the changes delivered by the #UrbanAgOrdinance. They included allowing: - urban agriculture in more zones - temporary on-site urban farm stands - larger private community gardens - more aquaculture operations These changes have helped make #Sacramento into the #FarmToFork Capital we know and love today. As we celebrate this anniversary, it is worth considering a push for an Urban Ag Ordinance 2.0. What policy changes do you think we need to continue cultivating a resilient local food system in the #CityOfTrees? #FarmToEveryFork

Connecting communities to land, food and opportunity
关于我们
Alchemist CDC connects Sacramento-area communities to land, food, and opportunity, toward a vision in which all neighborhoods are vibrant, equitable, healthy and diverse. We invest in our communities by connecting them to land, food, and opportunity. Our programs provide residents with greater access to fresh, healthy food options; green spaces; and food business training, especially within the economically disadvantaged neighborhoods we serve in Sacramento.

It may not sound like much at first, but today represented a major milestone in the development of Alchemist Public Market (APM). This morning, we released the "Request for Proposals" from local food entrepreneurs who want to incubate at APM in one of our all-electric food trailers or food pods. After years of planning this project, we are near enough to a grand opening (late summer 2026) that we are ready to begin the process of selecting the businesses that will make the APM outdoor food court into fun, vibrant, delicious destination for unique local flavors. - Want to keep up with the project developments? Follow Alchemist Public Market. - Not sure what APM is? Check out the project website: https://lnkd.in/g55hejmM - Wondering how you can have a food business at APM? Opportunities will be reserved for participants in our Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program and graduates of the Alchemist Microenterprise Academy (AMA). To get started, sign up to be notified when applications open for the fall cohort of AMA: https://lnkd.in/ghRd3jDd #FarmToFork #AlchemistPublicMarket #AlchemistKitchen #AKIPBusiness #FarmToEveryFork #VisitSacramento #RiverDistrict #TheRailyards #Sacramento #Sactown River District

We have known this is coming, but it is great to see it officially moving forward! The new Kaiser Permanente hospital and medical complex will not only transform the Sacramento Railyards but also the neighboring River District. The Kaiser complex will be a short, 5 minute bike ride from Alchemist Public Market. We cannot wait to have delicious food, coffee, and beverages for the Kaiser staff, patients, and guests. Perhaps one day there will even be prescriptions for fresh produce that can be redeemed at our farmers' market. Alchemist Community Development Corporation

We are grateful to the California State Senate Human Services Committee for hosting an informational hearing at the Capitol this morning on "Hunger In California". Ten panelists were invited to address the Committee about the policies and programs at the federal and state levels that can help or hurt food insecurity. Alchemist CDC Executive Director, Sam Greenlee, was one of those panelists, speaking to the importance of preserving SNAP/CalFresh and strengthening the California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP) so that Market Match can obtain permanent funding. With food insecurity and hunger threatening to grow, it is encouraging to see California's legislators maintaining a keen interest and focus on essential needs. Thank you to Chair Arreguín, Vice Chair Ochoa Bogh, and Senator Josh Becker for your attention and concern. #CALeg #CABudget #MarketMatch #MyJobDependsOnAg #FarmersMarkets #SaveMarketMatch
