The BIG news... We are thrilled to announce that AFE has been awarded a $225,000 American Rescue Plan Act grant from Albany County, NY and the Albany County Legislature. These funds will help us ensure that students in the City School District of Albany come to school able to focus on learning - not on lunchtime. We look forward to expanding our school food pantry program to additional elementary schools and extending the reach of our culturally specific food program. We're honored to join partners such as the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and The Food Pantries for the Capital District as we work together to build a hunger-free community!

We've finally compiled all the numbers on "Hunger Doesn't Take a Summer Vacation" - AFE's summer weekend food bag program. For eight weeks, 435 students from all City School District of Albany schools received food to keep them from going hungry over the weekend. The program was funded by a CDBG grant from Albany Community Development Agency, with 150+ volunteers contributing a total of 510 hours of service. Together, we provided our students with more than 62,000 pounds of food, including 9,000 pounds of produce! Our final week featured great volunteer teams from The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region and Albany Law School, with reusable grocery bags generously donated by CDPHP! Plus, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York contributed additional pre-packed bags of food to get the school year off to a good start! A huge belated thank you to everyone who came together to keep our students healthy and nourished all summer long!
