Founded in 1791, the Albany Institute of History & Art is one of the oldest museums in the United States.
关于我们
The genesis of the Albany Institute of History & Art began with The Society for the Promotion of Agriculture, Arts, and Manufactures, founded in New York City in Federal Hall. The Institute’s museum and library holdings form the best collections in the United States documenting the life and culture of the Upper Hudson Valley region from the late seventeenth century to the present day. Although the Institute is famous for its significant Hudson River school paintings, the broad scope of its collections includes fine arts, furnishings, personal objects, documents, manuscripts, photographs, and personal papers used by people of all ages, social classes, economic conditions, and cultural groups. Education programs serve 10,000 students, teachers, adult learners, and families every year. The museum education department’s mission is to connect our community to our collections and exhibitions through lifelong learning opportunities that serve toddlers to older adults. The museum shop is open during regular museum hours and offers a selection of items that reflects current exhibitions, items from the collections, and the work of local artists and craftspeople.

“Mohican Masters – the original people of the Albany region – alongside Dutch Masters. The approach perfectly matches the spirit of our Future400 cultural program.” The Albany Institute of History & Art opened two exhibitions this weekend, where you experience seventeenth-century Dutch and Native culture through the five senses. "Delights of the Senses: Seventeenth-Century Dutch Art and Life, Featuring Paintings from the Leiden Collection" matches paintings from the preeminent The Leiden Collection with historic objects from the institute's collection and others. "People of the Waters that Are Never Still: A Celebration of Mohican Art and Culture" honors the Mohican people through historical and contemporary art. Not only are the five senses evoked, but also a sense of connection - to place, the Earth, water, animals, relatives, ancestors, stories, traditions, identity, and community. The contemporary artists in this exhibition reflect upon their heritage. At the opening reception, Cultural Attaché Pauline Genee applauded the approach of the museum, telling a more complete history: "This is what art, this is what culture can do: connect on a deeper level. On a human level. Oil on canvas comes to live, becomes real human beings. Like you and me. With all the senses activated. Connecting across the ages. Across nations. Across divisions.” More details: https://lnkd.in/gP9Kshwz
