We're over halfway through No Shave November and even our female troopers are joining in the fun. The Alaska State Troopers have already raised over $4,800 for the American Cancer Society of Alaska! However, we are still over $3,000 behind what the Anchorage Police Department has raised. You can help us beat APD and show appreciation for the troopers who keep us safe every day by joining us in this meaningful cause. Protecting the Last Frontier requires a different kind of cop. It requires an Alaska State Trooper.

Each year on Veterans Day, we pause to remember the countless heroes who have sacrificed for our nation. The Department of Public Safety is grateful to have many former and current military members among our ranks. Their dedication and service continue to inspire us. If you see Troopers with beards this month there is a good reason. During November, your Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Deputy Fire Marshals, and Court Service Officers are taking part in No Shave November to help raise money for cancer research with the American Cancer Society of Alaska. Troopers and Officers will be allowed to grow facial hair to participate in the annual fundraiser and donate the money they would have spent on shaving towards cancer research and awareness. If you would like to support the campaign you can visit https://lnkd.in/gA3Dp5zc.

This week the Alaska State Troopers and Village Public Safety Officers teamed up with the National Football League (NFL) and National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) to announce the distribution of Child ID kits at the Elders and Youth Conference in Anchorage. These kits allow parents to capture fingerprints, DNA, and other vital information in the kit and keep it safe in case the child is ever reported missing, so that they can provide it to law enforcement. The information collected on the card is never entered into a government database or stored by law enforcement since it is kept by the parent for use in the unlikely event that their child is missing.? ? The Alaska State Troopers will have kits available at our booth at the Alaska Federation of Natives convention this weekend and will be distributing them throughout the state in the coming months.?

Governor Dunleavy has declared this week Forensic Science Week in Alaska. Across the state and at the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Lab in Anchorage over 50 scientists and professionals help to create a safer Alaska by collecting and processing evidence, analyzing and interpreting data, writing reports and testifying in court. Over the last year, the professionals at the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Lab have processed over 6,000 lab requests from law enforcement agencies across the state. The Digital Forensics Lab within ABI received 223 requests for examinations and processed over 640 digital devices for examination. The Forensic Technicians positioned at Trooper posts around the state have responded to dozens of violent crime scenes to document and collect evidence for processing.
