We're proud to unveil a new video that showcases the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project and its future potential. ? Owned by AEA, the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project has been a low-cost source of electricity for the Railbelt for more than 30 years. Located near Homer, Alaska, the 120-megawatt facility generates about 10 percent of the total annual power used by the Railbelt. ? As the largest hydroelectric facility in the state, it provides clean, affordable energy for more than 550,000 Alaskans from Homer to Fairbanks. ? Bradley Lake power averages about four cents per kilowatt hour, a significant savings over the cost of fossil fuel sources. It exemplifies the role hydropower plays in our state’s energy mix. On this #ThrowbackThursday, we look back at this photo taken circa 1989 during the construction of the Bradley Lake Hydroelectric Project located 27 miles from Homer, Alaska. Bradley Lake's power generation potential was first studied by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1955. AEA assumed ownership of the project in 1982 and completed it on time and on budget in 1991. Upon construction it was the largest hydroelectric facility in Alaska — and remains so today. The 120-megawatt facility provides low-cost energy for more than 550,000 Alaskans from Homer to Fairbanks. At 4 cents per kilowatt hour, it provides some of the cheapest power on the Railbelt, which also helps reduce energy costs in rural Alaska.

Discussions and presentations at the Alaska Rural Energy Conference next week will focus on exploring the technical and economic feasibility of both existing fossil fuel and renewable energy options for rural Alaska, discuss new technologies, recent success stories, and identify what the state and industry can do to help rural utilities function at the highest possible level. https://akruralenergy.org/
