The Alaska Ocean Mining team has been at the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit all week in DC! University of Alaska Fairbanks and partners are investigating the potential?of seaweeds to?hyperaccumulate rare earth elements (REEs) in waters surrounding a former uranium mine?site in Prince of Wales.??? ??? Through combined geochemistry, and ocean water chemistry, we have: - Identified and quantified?REE?concentration from ore to ocean - Established?the potential for REE hyperaccumulation?by seaweeds - Established REE selectivity by seaweed. This concept re-envisions ocean mining, and we're excited to share more as the work continues!
