A 200-acre family property in Union County near Raiford was recently protected by a conservation easement purchased by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and facilitated by Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT). The two organizations worked together to assist the Diercks family sell a conservation easement. The conservation easement was acquired through Florida Forever, the state’s premier land acquisition program. Protection of this property expands existing conservation lands around Raiford and contributes to protection of the Ocala to Osceola (O2O) Corridor, a critical linkage of the larger Florida Wildlife Corridor - a network of over 18 million acres designated as high conservation priority by the Florida legislature. ACT protects land through purchase, donation, and conservation easements primarily in 22 counties. For 36 years, ACT has been instrumental to facilitating the conservation of over 59,500 acres of Florida land. This includes the direct purchase and protection of over 26,500 acres. We own and manage over 5,000 acres, and collaborate with private landowners to protect an additional 6,850 acres through conservation easements. ACT currently work across 22 counties in North Central Florida, including Alachua, Marion, Gilchrist, Putnam, Levy, Columbia, Madison, Hamilton, Union, Bradford, Clay, Suwannee, Lafayette, Dixie, Taylor, Sumter, Lake, Volusia, Citrus, Hernando, Pasco, & Seminole County. We serve our community and home by protecting and preserving natural spaces, creating opportunities to interact with the environment, and teaching the next generation through environmental education programs. ACT saves land by purchasing it or receiving it as a donation. We also work with private landowners interested in conserving their land to find the right conservation solutions for their land. In 2013, ACT received the National Land Trust Excellence Award, the highest award a land trust can receive. ACT is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity and receives no government grants for general operating support. We rely on contributions from private individuals, corporations, small businesses, and foundations. ACT is the recipient of regional, state, & national recognition: 2013 National Land Trust Excellence Award presented by the Land Trust Alliance 2017 Wes Skiles Water Stewardship Award presented by the Rotary Club of Downtown Gainesville 2019 Conservation Organization of the Year presented by the Florida Wildlife Federation 2021 Gainesville Legacy Awards - Nonprofit Recognition Award

Nearly 1,500 acres in Columbia County were recently protected by a conservation easement purchased by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and facilitated by Alachua Conservation Trust (ACT). The two organizations worked together to help the Greene family sell a conservation easement on land owned by the family for generations. The land is part of the Ocala to Osceola Wildlife Corridor, or O2O. The conservation easement was acquired through Florida Forever, Florida’s premier conservation and recreation lands acquisition program. The 1,475-acre Greene property lies on the east side of the Suwannee River about 30 miles north of Lake City. The land is an important link between conservation lands along the river and the Pinhook Swamp conservation area, which is adjacent to the Osceola National Forest. Protection of the Greene property contributes to the larger O2O, which in turn is part of the Florida Wildlife Corridor - a statewide network of over 18 million acres that is Florida’s blueprint for landscape conservation. The O2O Corridor is one of the State’s priority conservation areas with over $400 million appropriated for land protection in the State’s 2023 budget. The Greene conservation easement is one of the largest State acquisitions in the O2O. Give4Marion is in the books and we are thrilled to report that the McIntosh Seedlings Garden Club Match Challenge was met and completed with 20 minutes to spare. A HUGE shout out to the Seedlings and all of their supporters for bringing $10,200 to the table for this 33 hour online fundraising event. Their quite intentional investment in the community is to be loudly applauded. Please let them know that you appreciate their efforts on Saturday, October 12th at the upcoming McIntosh 1890s Festival. The Seedlings understand the importance of both land conservation and the preservation of the culturally significant built environment that rests upon it. Increasingly, the two are seen as working in tandem to enhance the quality of life in communities, link us to our shared past and celebrate the importance of place saving. You helped make this match happen. Your generous support and trust in the mission of ACT insured that this challenge would be met!!! Now, let's go "Top Off the Hilltop"! #KeepFLWild #Give4Marion #ThisPlaceMatters #PlaceSaving #fundraising #OrangeLake #MarionCounty #McIntosh #OLO #Conservation #HistoricPreservation
