Back in August, we had the opportunity to connect with students from universities across Alabama at the STARS Leaders and University Advocates Conference. Students were able to network with their peers, enhance their leadership and advocacy skills and gain insight into issues facing Alabama. Collaboration between the 14 public universities across Alabama is important to build and refine the skills necessary to lead on campus and across the state.???

With the right opportunities, anything is possible. Meet Camryn Sherrill, a preschool teacher and The University of West Alabama student majoring in elementary education, whose journey illustrates how higher education opens doors and shapes futures. Through UWA, Camryn has built communication skills that she is able to use both inside the college and preschool classroom. UNA just unveiled new versions of their iconic mascots Leo and Una! With this new upgrade, they’re ready to bring even more spirit and fun to campus.?With ongoing support for higher education, we’re excited to keep our traditions alive. Make sure to get a selfie if you see them in the wild!????

At universities across Alabama, connection on campus starts with a simple, "Hey!"?A tradition originating in 1947, Auburn University established Hey Day to promote a friendly atmosphere among students returning from service in World War II by offering each student the opportunity to wear a name tag. The Auburn Family continues to foster a sense of belonging among the student body through this opportunity each year, making Hey Day one of the university's most cherished campus-wide events! ???

Introducing District 16 senator, J.T “Jabo” Waggoner! A?25-year supporter of Higher Education Day, Senator Waggoner is currently serving his 8th?term in the senate and serves on the Executive Committee of Birmingham Business Alliance, the Faulkner University Board of Trustees, the Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. In 1975, Senator Waggoner championed the legislation that allowed UAB to expand from 18th street all the way to I-65, leading to the footprint we know today. This summer, the Partnership was proud to introduce the creation of the Waggoner Award for Excellence in Public Service and to present it to Senator Waggoner, in recognition of his dedication to higher education and his legacy of service to the state of Alabama. We are so grateful to legislators like Senator Waggoner who continue to help us make strides towards bettering higher education!

Alabama?universities continuously strive to improve higher education for current and future students.
