Thank you to everyone who joined us for this morning's opening of our new LiveAbility Lab exhibition space. For over 10 years, Al Sigl has helped connect people of all ages and abilities served on its six campuses with interdisciplinary teams from area colleges and community volunteers. Together, they help develop solutions to real-world access technology challenges. The exhibit includes a variety of projects in progress. Exhibits will highlight how people who take part in Al Sigl Member Agency programs and program staff are the heart of the partnership – submitting project ideas, providing feedback to refine possible design and engineering solutions, and testing prototypes. Heartfelt thanks to those who spoke at the event: Dr. Dan Phillips of Rochester Institute of Technology; President Bob Russell and Dr. Sara Calus, PT/OT Supervisor at Rochester Hearing & Speech Center; Amanda Hefferon, Director of Children’s Services for Happiness House at the Golisano Autism Center; and Tom O'Connor, President of Al Sigl Community. This effort is all about collaboration, and we are grateful for the many friends who joined us today: Don Harel of RIT; Goodwill of the Finger Lakes; Endless Highway, Inc.. Move To Include at WXXI Public Broadcasting Council; Rochester Spinal Association, ThermApparel, and many others. Interested in learning more or have a new project idea to suggest? "This month marks 34 years since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, yet we’re told to keep waiting for our rights, as though we must earn them." @EmilyLadau of Words I Wheel By On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law to help ensure that people of all abilities have the same rights and opportunities. As we celebrate this milestone, we also recognize how much more needs to be done to remove barriers to full community inclusion. #AlSigl #ADA34 #AchievingMoreTogether #MoveToInclude #CelebratingAbilities
