Anna L. Butler (May 31, 1926 – September 28, 2014) holds a distinguished place in history as the longest-serving employee of both the Akron Urban League and the national Urban League organization. Her remarkable career spanned 56 years, beginning with her very first job at the Akron Urban League. Over more than five decades, Butler’s dedication and service left an indelible mark on the organization and the community it serves. In recognition of her unparalleled commitment, the Akron Urban League honored her with a Lifetime Achievement award, celebrating her legacy of hard work and community impact. Yesterday, our Scholars Academy students had the incredible opportunity to attend a special screening of ESPN’s 30 for 30 film, False Positive, featuring Olympic gold medalist and Akron’s own, Butch Reynolds. The students not only watched the powerful documentary but also participated in an inspiring Q&A session moderated by WAKR’s Ray Horner, alongside Butch Reynolds, film director Ismai’l Al-Amin, and Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. The powerful message of resilience, overcoming adversity, and fighting for justice was a reminder that greatness is always within reach — no matter the obstacles.
