At our August ACAA meeting, we had a focused discussion on State Issue 1 and a robust conversation with U.S. Congressman Michael Rulli on his first several months in office and various federal priorities. Recently, ACAA member Tim Maloney, President of Canton Chair Rental, published a column in the Canton Repository regarding the Small Business Deduction that was created in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. This legislation has allowed small businesses to deduct 20% of their net business income and has enabled them to invest in capital assets and workforce needs. Unfortunately, this act expires at the end of 2025, which means small businesses are facing a potentially monumental tax increase. As Ohioans struggle to access affordable and quality childcare, it is vital that businesses and parents in the workforce be part of the solution(s). This morning, the ACAA hosted business leaders from across Ohio for a Childcare Roundtable with elected officials and key decision-makers focused on solving the childcare crisis. We were joined by State Representatives Bill Roemer and Andrea White, Brittany Boulton from Groundwork Ohio, and Bryan Stout from the Ohio Department of Children and Youth, who provided updates on how they're working to improve Ohio’s childcare system(s) and the local impact of childcare issues on our workforce and economy. We want to thank our speakers and guests for joining us today to further detail the obstacles and outline potential solutions related to improving Ohio's childcare ecosystem!
