Bering Sea Alaska pollock is a vital source of affordable, nutritious protein for millions of Americans through programs like the USDA National School Lunch Program. And, when possible, food-grade bycatch from the pollock fishery is donated to SeaShare, a national non-profit that helps provide nutrient-dense seafood to hunger relief programs and food banks in Alaska and nationwide. Thanks to the collaboration between Regional Fishery Management Councils, the fishing industry, and stakeholders, over 800 million acres of ocean habitat have been protected. Leading the Way in Bycatch Minimization Federal fisheries policy aims to reduce bycatch as much as possible, and the Eastern Bering Sea Alaska pollock fishery is no exception.
