Akonadi Foundation funds powerful movements and coordinated campaigns to shape a racially just Oakland.
关于我们
Akonadi Foundation is one of the first place-based family foundations to make racial justice a central focus of our giving. We follow the lead of organizers on the frontlines of the movement for a racially just Oakland. For more than two decades, we have invested audaciously in Black and people of color-led organizing to make Oakland a beacon of justice and liberation for the nation. Since 2000, Akonadi has given more than 1,800 grants totaling $43 million to organizations that center power building and organizing in Black communities and communities of color. Our philanthropy is focused on organizing, advocacy, and healing and culture to build the power and voice of communities of color. Learn more at akonadi.org.

“The ability to keep rising – that’s Oakland.” Peggy Saika has been fighting for equity and justice in Oakland for over 40 years. She’s dedicated her life to building formal and informal structures to strengthen her communities because of her deep love for The Town. Currently, Peggy is involved with Hella Heart Oakland Giving Circle, where community members pool their resources to support refugees and immigrants who are new to Oakland. Although Nelson German is originally from NYC, he’s proud to call the Bay home. Oakland gave Chef Nelson the gift he’d been dreaming of for years – his restaurant, alaMar. As the executive chef and owner, Nelson is proud to share his Dominican heritage through the menu and aims to spread joy to every person he prepares a meal for. After alaMar was burglarized a couple of months ago, it was community support that kept them afloat. We’re so proud to feature him as the first spotlight in our #WeLoveOakland storytelling campaign. Watch Chef Nelson’s full story at weloveoakland.akonadi.org.
