?? Hot off the press ?? — Akita Biosciences is excited to announce the publication of our “PCANS” nasal spray technology in the prestigious scientific journal Advanced Materials. Our vision is to spread health and wellness through innovative nasal therapies that empower the body's natural defenses. The peer-reviewed study, 'Toward a Radically Simple Multi-Modal Nasal Spray for Preventing Respiratory Infections,' marks an important step forward in that effort. Currently, Akita Biosciences markets Profi Nasal Spray as a cosmetic product for nasal hygiene, with this study highlighting its potential applications as a medical device or drug. The technology could help protect high-risk groups such as children, the immunocompromised, and the elderly, as well as anyone looking to reduce the risk of respiratory infections. ? The spray is designed to form a protective gel-like barrier in the nose that lasts up to 8 hours, capturing pathogen-laden droplets, physically blocking them their entry, and rapidly neutralizing them. It’s formulated with well-established ingredients used in previously approved nasal sprays, which helps streamline its path to broader applications and supports ease of translation. In pre-clinical studies, PCANS demonstrated strong activity against a wide range of respiratory pathogens, for example the ones causing influenza, COVID-19, and RSV, and also a pneumonia-causing bacteria. ?
