Rich Kassel has been recognized again by City & State as an innovator and groundbreaker for #cleanenergy in New York. He will be honored at the second annual Trailblazers in Clean Energy on Thursday, April 24. Rich has applied his policy expertise and advocacy skills to reducing emissions from New York’s transportation, buildings, and energy sectors for more than three decades and has been a leader in New York's state, national, and global efforts to reduce diesel emissions. As a young attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in the mid-1990s, his “Dump Dirty Diesels” Campaign led to the MTA’s first Clean Fuel Bus Projects, which reduced diesel particulate emissions by more than 90% in only six years. His campaign helped launch a nationwide move toward cleaner buses in cities, transit systems, and school districts. Beyond his work in New York, Rich co-founded the Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles in 2002, leading the global campaign to eliminate leaded gasoline worldwide and extending his NRDC work to more than 100 countries. Rich has also served on numerous EPA and other expert committees and task forces, which have provided advice on strategies to reduce diesel emissions, increase the use of cleaner fuels, and accelerate the adoption of transportation electrification. From 2016 to 2023, Rich chaired EPA’s technical advisory committee on fuels and vehicle emissions, where he helped develop policies that became part of the Biden administration’s transportation decarbonization blueprint. Rich continues to inspire, lead, and support his AJW colleagues and clients, dedicated to supporting business opportunities that decarbonize and deliver clean air and a healthy environment. As we continue to find the signals amongst the noise, good news in 2024 for #renewableenergy as reported by the World Economic Forum. Renewable energy globally increased by 15%, led by #solar.
