You’re not referred to as “The Greatest Generation” for no reason. It’s not just those men who paid the ultimate sacrifice that are deserving of the title, but also those who survived Operation Overlord, those serving in the Pacific, and the countless civilians here in the U.S. who worked tirelessly to provide those men with the tools and equipment necessary to be victorious with the D-Day invasion. Not to mention, the families who had sons, brothers, fathers, and uncles fighting in the Second World War. Today, on the 80th Anniversary of Normandy’s Allied invasion, the Arnold J. Pegg Center proudly salutes those brave men who fought courageously. We extend our deepest sympathies to those who lost loved ones on that fateful day and the families of veterans who have since departed us to join thier brothers in arms. You have shown us the true meaning of duty, inspiring future generations of service members.

80 years since D-Day. 80 years since the largest seaborne invasion in history. 80 years since the heroic efforts of those who landed on the beaches of Normandy to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny. 80 years of peace in Western Europe since. Today we say thank you. #DDay80

Today, we encourage you to take a moment of silence in honor of the brave men and women who lost their lives protecting our freedom. We remember their service and ultimate sacrifice as we mark #MemorialDay.

Gen. Douglas MacArthur once said, “no one is entitled to the blessings of freedom unless they be vigilant in its preservation.” Yesterday, those vigilant in the preservation of our freedoms graduated as 2nd LTs.
