?? Junior Officer Wisdom from COL Kris Saling?? “Don’t perpetuate bad practices just because that’s how you learned them. Make things tough—but the right way. The way people grow from, not just suffer through. Be the leader you wish you had: ? Push your Soldiers. ? Expect their best. ? Trust them to take risks. ? Have their backs when they need it. Leadership isn’t about making things difficult for difficulty’s sake. It’s about challenging people in a way that builds them up. Lead with purpose. Lead with trust. Lead with growth in mind. #JuniorOfficerWisdom #LeadTheRightWay #ArmyLeadership #MentorshipMatters” US Army Retention US Army The Center for Junior Officers

Junior Officer Spotlight: CPT Casey Batley & CPT Michael Shin ???? When Ms. Debra McKnight arrived in Washington, D.C., to receive the Medal of Honor on behalf of her father, CPT Hugh R. Nelson, she had one special request: to visit his resting place in Arlington National Cemetery—a visit she had not been able to make in nearly 30 years. With just a few hours’ notice, CPT Casey Batley (Commander of H Co, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, The Old Guard) and CPT Michael Shin (XO, H Co, TOG) stepped up without hesitation to make it happen. Their coordination ensured that Ms. McKnight and her family were welcomed with the highest level of respect, personally escorted by two TOG NCOs. The team arranged transportation, accessibility accommodations, and a heartfelt experience worthy of a hero’s legacy. When CPT Batley was first asked for assistance, his response was simple: “Wow, what an honor.” Leaders like CPT Batley and CPT Shin embody the selfless service, professionalism, and humility that define The Old Guard and the U.S. Army. Their actions reflect an unwavering commitment to honoring those who served before us and ensuring their families are supported. ?? Honor the past. Serve the present.
