We Have BIG News! ?? Ajana Therapy has been named one of Houston Business Journal’s 2025 Outstanding Diversity in Business recipients! We are one of just 30 businesses in Houston recognized this year, and we’re feeling all the things—grateful, proud, and, honestly, a little emotional. ?? Read the full article here: https://bizj.us/1qn15x This recognition is both an incredible honor and a bit ironic, given the times we are living in. We see diversity, equity, and inclusion being questioned and dismantled in many spaces—yet here we are, being celebrated for holding true to those very values. At Ajana, diversity isn’t a buzzword—it’s the foundation of our work. We’ve always believed that mental health work is social justice work. Our team reflects the diversity of the communities we serve, and we know that fostering connection across differences is key to collective healing. Why This Matters (So Much) ?? Because the world feels heavy right now—we need spaces that uplift, protect, and represent ALL identities. ?? Because mental health struggles don’t discriminate, but access to affirming, competent care still does. ?? Because our stories—our differences—are our strength, and healing happens when we feel safe, valued, and understood. We are committed to continuing this work, standing firmly in our values, and creating a practice where everyone belongs. Thank you to Houston Business Journal for this recognition, and to Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce for nominating us and championing diversity in business. And THANK YOU to our clients, our community, and our team—you are the heart of everything we do. Let’s keep showing up for each other. Let’s keep doing the work. ?? #DiversityInMentalHealth #HBJOutstandingDiversityInBusiness #RepresentationMatters #InclusiveTherapy #HoustonBusiness #HealingTogether #SocialJusticeAndMentalHealth #WeAllBelong

At Ajana Therapy, we are committed to ethical, affirming, client-centered care—guiding, supporting, and affirming, never dictating or pushing an agenda. ? Autonomy – Helping clients make choices that align with who they are. ? Do No Harm – Ensuring our work empowers, not dictates. ? Justice – Treating every client with dignity and respect. ? Fidelity – Staying true to our ethical commitments. What Does Affirming Care Mean? ?? It’s not about pushing an agenda. It’s about creating a safe space where clients are respected, validated, and supported in making their own informed decisions—without bias, judgment, or pressure. What This Means at Ajana ?? We Are Not Doing Anything Unethical. We follow the highest ethical standards—always. If something concerns you, ask us directly. Fear and misinformation are not good decision-makers. ?? We Support Clients, Not Agendas. Therapy is about helping clients find their own answers—not imposing our beliefs on them. Unfortunately, some in our field are framing ethical, affirming care as controversial while pushing their own ideology onto clients. Words Matter—And Some Are Using Theirs to Harm We are appalled by colleagues using harmful rhetoric to attack those providing ethical care—this doesn’t just harm professionals, it harms clients. ?? Language shapes healing. ?? Misinformation causes harm. ?? Ethical counseling uplifts—it doesn’t tear down. We stand with both our clients and our colleagues who have been harmed by these attacks. You are not alone. We see you. We support you. "You not a colleague, you a colonizer." – Kendrick Lamar At Ajana, we stand against harm, against oppression, and for ethical care. #AjanaTherapy #ClientCenteredCare #DoNoHarm #EthicalCounseling #WeSupportNotForce #WordsMatter #TherapyNotHarm #Solidarity

?? BHEC & The Texas LPC Board’s Decision is Harmful—We Stand for Cultural Humility & Ethical Care ?? The Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council and Texas LPC Board have chosen to whitewash our professional standards, despite overwhelming opposition from mental health professionals. Instead of upholding clear language about cultural competency, they have replaced it with vague wording that allows practitioners to define "distinct populations" on their own terms—effectively diluting the purpose and importance of cultural humility and diversity training. Let’s be clear: This is not protection. This is harm. Every ethical decision-making model in our field would point to this being unacceptable. As mental health professionals, we are obligated to do no harm. That includes acknowledging systemic inequities, cultural differences, and the lived experiences of our clients. The council ignored the voices of an outsized proportion of practitioners speaking against this decision and instead voted unanimously to make this harmful change. At Ajana Therapy, our stance is unwavering: ? Cultural humility is non-negotiable. We will continue to practice in a way that acknowledges power imbalances, engages in self-reflection, and prioritizes learning from the diverse experiences of our clients. ? Cultural competency isn’t a checkbox—it’s a commitment. The new language gives licensees the ability to define "distinct populations" on their terms, rather than ensuring a deep and meaningful understanding of PoGM. ? We serve our clients, not politics. The LPC Board and BHEC are supposed to protect the public. This does the opposite. To our clients: We see you. We hear you. Our care will always be affirming, inclusive, and grounded in ethical, client-centered principles. To the Texas Counseling Association (TCA) and our fellow mental health professionals: We hope you are watching, speaking out, and taking action. Because silence is complicity, and we refuse to be silent. #CulturalHumilityMatters #DoNoHarm #EthicsOverPolitics #TexasLPCBoard #MentalHealthJustice #AjanaTherapy

?? Ajana Turns 6! Six years ago, Ajana Therapy was born out of my own season of uncertainty and the unknown. I was stepping into private practice, unsure of what the future held—personally and professionally. That’s why I chose the name Ajana, which means “unknown, undiscovered, uncertainty” in Bengali. It felt right then, and it still feels right now. Because the truth is—we are all always moving through the unknown. Through growth. Through transitions. Through hard times. These past six years have brought so much uncertainty—not just for me, but for all of us. The pandemic. Collective trauma. Personal grief. Political divide. Change after change. And yet—we keep moving forward. We keep showing up. We keep healing. Ajana was never meant to be just me—it’s always been about: ? Our team who gives their heart to this work ? Our clients who trust us with their stories ? Our community & partner organizations who walk alongside us Together, we’ve built something I’m so proud of. Together, we’ve navigated the unknown. And together—we’ll keep moving forward. Here are 6 lessons I’ve learned along the way: 1?? Boundaries Are Your Best Friend 2?? Mistakes Are Inevitable—And That’s Okay 3?? The Rollercoaster Is Part of the Ride 4?? You Can’t Make Everyone Happy 5?? You Can’t Do This Alone 6?? Rest Is Non-Negotiable ?? Which lesson resonates with you most? ?? Let me know in the comments! Thank you for being part of this journey. Here’s to all the unknowns ahead. ?? I’ve already heard from many clients in therapy sessions about the deep-seated feelings being triggered by the recent election results. It’s okay if this has left you feeling unsettled. For many, this moment is bringing up memories and past traumas, and it’s completely normal to feel these things rising to the surface. Whether it’s: *Religious trauma resurfacing in unexpected ways *Reminders of past abuse or controlling relationships *Feelings of powerlessness or fear due to past experiences *Concerns about safety, rights, and acceptance *The weight of systemic injustices that continue to impact so many lives *Worries about how these changes may shape your family, future, or sense of belonging These responses are natural, often tied to both personal and collective experiences of navigating power, control, and uncertainty. Our minds and bodies remember, and when we encounter systemic injustices, past experiences can resurface in complex ways. At Ajana, we’re committed to providing a safe, supportive space for you to process these feelings and move through them. Whatever you’re carrying, remember that you’re not alone, and we’re here to help you navigate this time with care and understanding. ?? Phone: 832-387-5735 ?? Email: [email protected] ??
