Meet Dave Hedengren, one of Utah’s leading minds in AI. Last week, Dave presented to a VIP group at AI Utah, sharing insights on his current work and perspectives on the future of AI. There’s a lot of fear around AI, LLMs, and job security. But Dave shared a perspective worth considering: When Microsoft Excel was introduced, accountants and travel agents feared it would replace them. Instead, the number of accountants and travel agents has only grown. If you ask Dave, he’d likely say that AI will drive a surge in productivity rather than eliminate jobs—at least for now. For those unfamiliar with Dave, he has an incredible background in data science and LLMs, with experience at companies like Waymo (self-driving cars), Apple, Microsoft, and now Shopify.
