To be a global leader in networking, education and sustainability programs for advancing iron and steel technology.
关于我们
The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) is an international technical association representing iron and steel producers, their allied suppliers and related academia. The association is dedicated to advancing the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel. AIST was established on January 1, 2004, by the merger of two longstanding societies, the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers (AISE) founded in 1907 and the Iron & Steel Society (ISS) founded in 1974. The best practices of both predecessor organizations were incorporated into AIST to create a strong international, member-based technical organization that can sustain itself in an environment of continual change. AIST’s professional and student member base totals over 18,000, representing more than 70 countries and including engineers, operators, corporate administrators, researchers and educators. 38% of AIST members are industry suppliers, 29% producers, 30% students and 3% academia. AIST members actively participate within the association through technology divisions, member chapters, board of directors and the AIST Foundation. AIST is committed to presenting superior technical meetings, conferences, exhibits and publications to better serve those involved in the iron and steel community, including steel manufacturers, suppliers, consumers and academics. AIST’s major international conference, AISTech, consists of more than 400 technical presentations, over 500 exhibiting companies and 6,000-8,000 attendees. This annual event brings together technologies from around the world, promoting a global network to help steel producers and suppliers compete in today’s global marketplace.

The Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel: 101 was hosted last month in Cleveland, Ohio. The two-day, sold-out event brought together over 80 attendees for an in-depth exploration of the steel production process and its impact on product design, application and performance. This fall brought the addition of a brand-new presenter, Michael Peretic, alongside our expert instructor Bryan Webler of Carnegie Mellon University. Together, they guided participants through the evolution of modern steel production, highlighting the technological advancements of the past 25 years and the critical processes involved in shaping, treating and producing high-quality steel. The attendees went on an exclusive plant tour of Charter Steel – Cleveland, Ohio, where they got a firsthand look at the steelmaking process in action. Seeing the technology and expertise behind steel production in person truly brought the course to life. If you weren’t able to join us this fall, don’t worry! Mark your calendars for 11–12 March 2025, when we’ll be hosting this course in Louisville, Ky. — we hope to see you there!

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the 20th Annual Continuous Casting – A Practical Training Seminar that was hosted in Corpus Christi, Texas, this past October. There were 133 excited steel industry professionals, including 81 from steel-producing companies, gathering to explore the latest advancements in continuous casting technology. This year’s seminar featured expert presentations on a wide range of topics, from the history and theory of continuous casting to the practical applications in modern equipment. Key discussions included metallurgy, mold powders, machine design and solidification processes. Attendees also explored critical operational challenges, such as breakout prevention and equipment maintenance, including bearings, hydraulics and coating technologies. The event concluded with a tour of the Steel Dynamics Inc. – Flat Roll Group Southwest-Sinton Division, where participants saw continuous casting operations firsthand. AIST and the Continuous Casting Technology Committee would like to thank all the speakers, attendees and our sponsor, Cunova, for contributing to the success of this event!
