I snapped this picture when I was leaving Iraq in 2009. For me and 200 other sailors who were hand picked from their commands across the country, we were now finishing our year-long deployment. A weird place for a Navy submariner to be. Individual augmentation, they call it. Our nametags said US NAVY but our uniforms were Army greens. Army Soldiers didn't know what to do when they saw a 20 year old walking around with an eagle on his chest. This would go down as the most transformative year in my life. This awakened me to many things we take for granted in our every day lives. I couldnt have made it through without the ones by my side. The OG's. The ones I will call friends until the end of time. We were in it together. Happy Veterans day to all of you.
