27.6 breathless seconds stretched out as the aircraft made its way back to the AstroTurf - solidifying Ken Blackburn as the world record holder for longest flight of a paper airplane in 1998. This moment captured the minds of many as Ken - an aerospace engineer within our Integrated Capabilities Directorate, would pull more folks into the fold of paper airplane creation throughout the years, both defending his title and educating those interested in aviation. #AFResearchLab | #WordRecordDay | #AVGeeks | #STEMEducation | #PaperAirplane

?? Congratulations to this year's Early Career Award winners and Fellows! ?? AFRL had the privilege of recognizing 17 scientists ???? and engineers ???? for the 2024 AFRL Fellows and Science and Engineering Early Career Awards. “It is sort of the nerd version of the Oscars, and I will tell you, I would prefer to be here 10 out of 10 times than the Oscars because these are the real heroes,” said AFRL Commander Brig. Gen. Jason E. Bartolomei. “These are the ones that get up every day and do something that is bigger than themselves," said Bartolomei. These 8 new Fellows and 9 new ECA's join the other 259 AFRL scientists and engineers who have become AFRL fellows and 75 members of the S&E ECA program “We are standing on the shoulders of giants, and we are about ready to welcome the next set of giants into the hall of fame,” said Bartolomei.
