??Welcome to the newest members of the ACURL team! #ICYMI Royal Canadian Air Force officers proudly raised their flag for the first time at the Australia Canada United Kingdom Reprogramming Laboratory (ACURL)at Eglin Air Force Base surrounded by their international teammates. The two newest members, who arrived over the summer, joined the effort to provide mission data file programming for the Australian, Canadian, and United Kingdom F-35 variants. Mission data is information across the electronic landscape that allows the aircraft and aircrew to sense, identify, locate, and counter threats in the electromagnetic spectrum. The first CF-35A will be delivered to Canada in 2026. https://lnkd.in/gzfs4h32 #USAF #partnerships #RCAF #defense

????Taking care of the youngest members of our military family! Military connected students make up less than 1% of the total student population in many military impacted schools, so it’s imperative to have knowledgeable SLPs to help build healthy, sustainable educational partnerships. The Air Force Services Center recently launched an online platform to boost support for installation command teams, educators, community stakeholders and families. The new platform delivers the recently updated 8-week hybrid School Liaison Program Managers Core Course that lays the foundation for building, strengthening and sustaining the Installation School Liaison Program. The best ideas are often those of the #Airmen on the ground! With a few of snaps, turns and clicks, a new fuels innovation is sealed in place to an Air Force R-11 fuel truck. After that five-second attachment, it is ready to gather a required fuel sample for evaluation to ensure aircraft fuel is free of water or any other contamination. This innovation, known as the single-point nozzle adapter, or SN, removes two-thirds of the time and steps required to take a fuel sample from multiple fuel sources, such as trucks and mobile stations. It also removes almost any chance of direct exposure, from spillage or spray to the hazardous chemicals that make up the fuel. Only two of the SN prototypes exist, but thanks to the 96th Test Wing’s iSpark #innovation team, Eglin Air Force Base will become the third base to have, not just one, but three of the $2,700 adapters. Better yet -this SN innovation is the idea of Tech. Sgt. Collin Stratton, a fuels support NCO-in-charge with the 96th Logistics Readiness Squadron. How and why did this new innovation come about? Read on to find out! ??https://lnkd.in/gZnR6rB9 #USAF #maintainer #innovation #idea

“There were moments of sheer terror...but, when you're in the cockpit, there's no room for fear. You focus on the mission — on getting home in one piece. That's what mattered.” - Retired Col. Richard Heyman, Pilot, #Hero Few pilots can claim to have flown in three wars, let alone as both a fighter pilot and a squadron commander. Even fewer can say they survived them all. But Heyman can. For his efforts and contributions Heyman was recently honored with the 2024 Swords of Honor at the Royal Air Force Museum American Foundation “Spirit of the Battle of Britain” banquet marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day held in Washington, D.C. As one of the last surviving veterans of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, Heyman's story is more than just a tale of military service. It's a story of resilience, dedication and the unbreakable bond between a pilot and the sky. And, it's one definitely worth a read. ????https://lnkd.in/gwhRYqnT #pilot #hero #WWII #defense #history

Board games are more than just boredom cures...they're tools for strategy! The Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center is using a board game and data-driven outcomes to prepare installation and mission support Airmen to successfully conduct agile combat employment operations in contested environments. Kingfish ACE, the United States Air Force table-top strategy game, is the centerpiece of learning for AFIMSC and fellow I&MS participants. The game simulates a conflict and gives Airmen insight into the significance of their I&MS roles in executing warfighting missions. Participants receive constant challenges that require quick decisions for employing forces and generating air power. Team participation and practical application in a simulated environment, rather than the study of doctrine, empowers participants and fosters the sharing of ideas, while the human element improves performance as people work together more effectively. ??Amazing achievement, Air Force Research Laboratory team! "We are standing on the shoulders of giants, and we are about ready to welcome the next set of giants into the hall of fame," said AFRL Commander, Brig. Gen. Jason E. Bartolomei during opening remarks at the 2024 AFRL Fellows and Science and Engineering Early Career Awards gala, which celebrated this year's early career achievers and new fellow inductees. The AFRL Fellows program acknowledges outstanding scientists and engineers who contribute significantly to the U.S. Department of the Air Force. Nominees for the program include military and government civilians assigned to AFRL for a total of seven years, including the last three consecutive years. Fellow receive a $300,000 research grant in addition to the accolades. The AFRL ECA program recognizes government civilian scientists and engineers with exceptional accomplishments who have been with AFRL for less than seven and no more than 15 years since the award of their bachelor’s degree in a science, technology, engineering or math field. ECA receipients receive a $100,000 grant to further research in their tech area. Read about the winners and the programs at https://lnkd.in/gXs58hVX. #STEM #PeopleofAFMC #award

????....But will it work in SPACE ??? A team of engineers from the Air Force Research Laboratory The Ohio State University and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration tested the potential for laser welding in space with a parabolic flight experiment at the Central Coast Jet Center in Santa Maria, Calif.. The experiment allowed engineers and scientists to understand the different behavior of materials and performance of equipment under space conditions by simulating the microgravity environment of a low earth orbit. The need to develop and leverage manufacturing technology (such as laser welding) in space has become increasingly vital to assist in the movement and support of military equipment and personnel. However, while scientists understand how laser welding functions on Earth, little is known about how it performs in the extreme conditions of space. During the test, the autonomous laser welding system was not only put through its paces in a microgravity environment but also simulated the vacuum of space by being placed in a vacuum chamber. #OneAFMC #AFRL #Space #NASA #defense #research Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gWyewPZ5
