Three years ago, if you had told me Adagia would have over $1 billion?of AUM (Asset Under management) today, I wouldn’t have believed it. In addition, if you had told me, I would have initiated AI funds of over $400 million AUM and be writing books, I would have said it was impossible. Life can change so unexpectedly, but capitalize on opportunities. Sometimes they are happy accidents. With books especially, I am now writing my 5th book in French and 10th authored books, some of which have been translated into French, English, Chinese, and Japanese. This all happened because my marketing head back at Roland Berger asked me one day in 2008 to write a book on China. I never thought of writing a book. I read many, but never saw myself as an author. The name of the book they had in mind was ridiculous, as they had never even been to China. So we pivoted, again and again. It turned out to be highly successful, and that’s because of the passion I have for my work and making complicated subjects accessible to the world. We are all busy in our day-to-day tasks, and sometimes they feel more difficult to take on. But take them. Think of the consequences later. It can be hard to say no, but someone will ask you to do something for a reason. Make that reason be YOU!
