? AIPLA is pleased to feature Tia Smith in our November Member Spotlight! ? After graduating from Michigan State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Tia decided to take a leap of faith and honor her mother by making a career change after her mother's passing, which led her to law school. She spent three years working as an IP Law clerk and is currently a 2L at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law Mercy Law, where she is a first-generation law student. Tia is passionate about establishing an innovation hub in Detroit to provide financial and legal resources to first-time inventors. IP is the foundation of many renowned companies, startups, and small businesses. Innovation is an integral part of history, and Tia is honored to contribute to it. Recently, she interned with the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and is currently participating in the 2024 PTAB Moot Court Competition. Outside of her legal pursuits, Tia enjoys soap-making. Her favorite aspect of being an AIPLA member is the opportunity to meet IP attorneys from around the globe.
