Generating and transforming ideas into enterprises that create economic or social value.
关于我们
At the University of Rochester, we focus on a broad definition of entrepreneurship: the generation and transformation of ideas into enterprises that create value—and that value can be economic or social. More than a discrete set of business skills or practices, entrepreneurship is a calling that can be pursued in many realms of experience and achievement. A core value of American culture, entrepreneurship uniquely combines the visionary and the pragmatic. It requires both individual initiative and knowledge and, through awareness of markets, attention to the needs of others. Entrepreneurship is a way of thinking, an approach to problems, an attribute of mind, and even a trait of character. It is a science and an art; entrepreneurship is a primary way in which a free society grows and improves not only its economy, but its cultural and social life as well. The Center for Entrepreneurship was launched by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation grant awarded to the University in 2003. It was renamed the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship in 2015 in recognition of Mark S. Ain ’67S (MBA) and his wife Carolyn Ain for their visionary leadership and support of entrepreneurial students University-wide.

A nice feature on one of our rockstar entrepreneurship faculty members! Mike Riedlinger's wealth of experience and insight brings incredible value to the University of Rochester community!
Mike Riedlinger brings valuable insight to his role as an I-Corps instructor. The founder or co-founder of several successful startups, Mike is also the Managing Director of Scale For ClimateTech, the Executive Director of Technology Commercialization at NextCorps, and an entrepreneurship lecturer for the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation - University of Rochester. He reflects on his extensive experience here:?? ? Q: What motivated you to become an I-Corps instructor?? A: My motivation comes from my own experiences — lows as well as highs — from my entrepreneurial journeys. I-Corps provides a great framework for aspiring entrepreneurs to learn about the breadth of connections needed for commercializing technologies, which took me many years to understand. Seeing a student’s energy shift when the moment of discovery hits them is my reward in being an I-Corps instructor. ? Q: What one piece of advice do you have for new entrepreneurs?? A: Starting a new venture takes an enormous amount of work that requires a dedicated team to share the load and work through the torrents of issues that face any startup. Prioritize solving vexing problems that have real significance to customers and be open to learning from the situations that will arise. Whenever possible, talk with others that have a lot of experience that is relevant to your startup. Having a mentor that can help guide you and your time will make a world of difference.? ? Apply for an I-Corps regional course to explore commercialization with the help of experienced mentors like Mike: https://lnkd.in/gnXHPnyN???
