Most plant properties (phenotypes) are determined by a mix of genetics (G) and environment (E). But wouldn't it be simpler if some phenotypes were determined by genetics and others by environment? That's what Anirudha Powadi, Talukder Zaki Jubery & Michael Tross set out to do in this new preprint. They designed a new computational encoder strategy to decompose hyperspectral reflectance data from a maize diversity panel of ~700 genotypes grown in two environments into a set of genetic and environmental factors that can be used to predict whole plant traits. Excited to present our work on Model-Free Control of Soft Continuum Arms Using Visual Servoing and Soft Actor-Critic at MLCAS 2024! It was a great experience presenting and discussing our findings with the community. In this project, we developed an eye-to-hand visual servoing method using Soft Actor-Critic (SAC), a model-free deep reinforcement learning approach, to track targets in the SCA’s workspace. To bridge the "reality gap" in transferring from simulation to real-world robots, we evaluated and compared various transfer techniques.
