  • COVID madness made experts ignore fundamental trade-offs to “save just one life.” The ultimate costs are still mounting: 1) The Conference Board’s New Orders for Nondefense Capital Goods Excluding Aircraft, a key indicator of business investment, dropped sharply due to pandemic disruptions, and while recovery began in 2021, it remains below pre-pandemic levels, signaling caution from firms. 2) Despite the massive government stimulus, inflation has remained persistently high, impacting purchasing power and complicating efforts to control inflation. 3) Public health measures, including lockdowns, led to a steep decline in consumer confidence, which has not yet fully recovered. 4) While nominal wages have increased, they have not kept up with inflation, leaving real average hourly earnings stagnant. 5) Labor market disruptions during the pandemic have resulted in a decline in employment levels, which have not fully recovered. 6) Supply chain disruptions & pandemic-era government transfers temporarily boosted savings, but as of 2025, net saving has returned to trend or even fallen below it, as households face higher living costs and diminished purchasing power. 7) The increase in government spending to address the pandemic’s effects has contributed to rising national debt, which, coupled w/ the lower employment-population ratio & fewer workers, poses long-term challenges for productivity, tax revenues, and economic growth. 8) The spike in food prices dramatically reshaped household budgets, creating sustained financial strain for millions of families and significantly elevating food insecurity across diverse economic communities. 9) Inflation expectations have become increasingly unpredictable, creating a complex economic environment where traditional forecasting models have been disrupted, leading to heightened uncertainty in financial decision-making. 10) The housing market experienced a dramatic transformation driven by historically low interest rates, limited inventory, and expansionary policies, creating an affordability crisis that effectively locked out a significant portion of first-time homebuyer ownership. Taken together, the post-COVID trends in these economic phenomena make clear that while some headline figures paint a rosy picture, the US economy remains structurally altered by the events of 2020. • The Department of Education doesn’t teach a single child or employ a single teacher. Every state already has its own education system, so there’s no need for a federal bureaucracy in D.C. Created in 1979 as a political favor from Jimmy Carter to the teachers’ unions, the DOE violates the 10th Amendment. It was supposed to close achievement gaps and improve student outcomes but has done neither. Test scores remain stagnant while spending skyrockets. Teachers’ unions fear their federal gravy train is coming to an end. Education belongs to states and, more importantly, parents, not Washington bureaucrats. AIER Visiting Fellow Corey A. DeAngelis joins the Tom Woods Show to discuss. Watch the full discussion below

  • For decades, US taxpayers unknowingly funded coercive “family planning” programs aimed at suppressing population growth in developing nations. But President Trump’s latest moves signal a major shift: - Reinstated the Mexico City Policy, blocking taxpayer funds from abortion providers abroad - Defunded the UN Population Fund, which supported China’s forced sterilizations - Dismantling USAID, a key player in global population control - Investigating whether family planning subsidies were used for DEI initiatives For years, groups like the UNFPA, International Planned Parenthood, and the Population Council masked their true mission of population control under the guise of “women’s rights.” But history reveals their deep roots in eugenics and coercion. From Kissinger’s National Security Study Memorandum 200 to USAID’s funding of forced sterilizations in India, America’s role in global population suppression has been far from innocent. Now, Trump is taking bold action to end it. Read Aidan Grogan's latest at The Daily Economy: https://lnkd.in/gwcXrDaw

  • Over the course of Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 (October 1, 2023-September 30, 2024), the federal government took in $4.92 trillion in tax revenue and spent $6.75 trillion. The U.S. government's growing debt remains a concern driven largely by mandatory spending programs like Social Security and Medicare. The economic risks will result in future tax increases and reduced services. In order to prevent further financial strain on future generations, reducing and reforming entitlement programs should to be a priority.
