Working to end the HIV epidemic in the United States through strategic grant-making, capacity building and policy.

关于我们

AIDS United is singularly focused on ending the HIV epidemic in the United States. During our almost 30-year history, we have changed and grown the funding landscape for HIV and transformed the policy environment. To date we have directly funded more than $98 million to local communities and have leveraged more than $115 million in additional support for programs that include access to care for people living with HIV, capacity building for community-based organizations, HIV prevention, advocacy, syringe access, and more. Through our Public Policy Committee, we’ve built the largest and strongest coalition of HIV-focused organizations working at the community level. Our coalition works together every day to ensure national and local policies reflect local realities and support an effective response to the end of AIDS.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Mackenzie Flynn, our Policy and Annual Conference Manager, who presented a workshop at the Healthy Teen Network's 44th Annual National Conference in Phoenix, AZ! In her workshop, “YOUth Are the Experts! Youth Involvement in Syndemic Advocacy,” Mackenzie highlighted the crucial role young people play in advocating for their health and wellbeing. While they often find themselves excluded from important conversations, many youth are already leading the charge on issues like racial justice, LGBTQIA+ health, and reproductive rights. By equipping youth with the resources they need, we can uplift their voices and prioritize what truly matters to them. We’re so proud of Mackenzie for sharing her expertise and empowering the next generation of advocates! Are you interested in presenting at a conference? AIDSWatch 2025, taking place March 16-18, 2025, in Washington, D.C., has an open call for abstracts (due December 6th)! ??? Every year on November 20, we honor Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day that began in 1999 when a small group of trans activists gathered to memorialize the lives of two Black transgender women, Rita Hester and Chanelle Pickett, who were lost to violence. Over the past two decades, this day has evolved into a time for us to come together, honor those we’ve lost and commit to creating a better, safer world for trans individuals. @transequalitynow AIDS United’s Transgender Leadership Initiative (TLI) Program Manager, Gabriel Glissmeyer, MPH shared his reflections on this significant day: “This Trans Day of Remembrance and Resilience, I think about all of the hardship and fear we trans people have faced over the last year. We mourn those who have been killed due to ignorance and discrimination, and we are reminded that we must do better. We must invest in trans leaders, we must value trans lives, and we must celebrate trans joy. Whether we are supporting leadership development of our trans community, educating providers on gender 101, or making trans health and access to care a priority, we must show up for our trans community in new, innovative, and equitable ways.” Founded in 2017, TLI supports transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming leaders of color in their journey as emerging leaders in their communities. TLI aims to enhance their professional development and the services they provide. This week, we honor the legacy of HIV activist and trailblazer Pedro Zamora (February 29, 1972, -November 11, 1994), whose profound legacy continues to inspire the world. Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Pedro was diagnosed with HIV at just 17 where his journey as an advocate began soon after. As a passionate speaker, Pedro traveled across the country, advocating for comprehensive HIV education. His impactful appearance on The Real World: San Francisco brought vital conversations about HIV into American homes, educating millions, even as he faced the challenges of his own journey. In light of Pedro's contributions, we’re proud to host the Pedro Zamora Public Policy Fellowship. This fellowship empowers advocates dedicated to social justice and public health, building skills to support the needs of those impacted by HIV, particularly within the Hispanic community. As our 2024 Pedro Zamora Fellow, Sophia Obregon shares, "As a queer Latina woman, Zamora’s story served as an inspiration for me... these experiences with AIDS United and through the fellowship have built my passion for this work, and Zamora’s legacy continues to inspire me to make change." Let’s carry forward Pedro Zamora's legacy, ensuring that his fight for justice, education, and representation lives on in our efforts today! Read more in our recent blog written by Obrenga: https://lnkd.in/ga9q4hQS #PedroZamora #HIVAdvocacy #AIDSUnited #PublicHealth #Fellowship #LegacyOfChange #TheRealWorld
