He was never a big fan of birthdays because he never wanted to minimize the value of “every” day. In fact, it was his intention to realize a short but meaningful list of experiences and emotions each and every day. To know and express hope. To know and express love. To know and express harmony. “It’s as simple as that,” he would say. I honor him just a little bit extra today in recognition of what would’ve been his 61st birthday, but to cherish who he was and all he gave to so many is what I hope to continue to express every day.
