What an incredible day at COP 29 in Baku! At the Italian Pavilion, we had the privilege of sharing how Kenya’s community conservancies are transforming lives through conservation, peacebuilding, and women’s empowerment. Our very own Ms. Josephine Ekiru, a women leader and peace ambassador, and Hon. Francis Chachu Ganya, NRT’s Director of Government & Strategic Stakeholders, joined a powerful panel to discuss real solutions that are addressing climate change and fostering community resilience. One of our key highlights is an immersive VR experience where guests to experience northern Kenya’s (Laikipia County) breathtaking landscapes, showcasing the impact of conservancies on the ground. The side event "Empowering Women, Conserving Nature, Building Peace: Solutions from #Kenya Community Conservancies" was successfully realized today at #COP29 in Baku, with dynamic participation from Kenyan and international stakeholders. Engaging discussions highlighted the critical role of community conservancies in addressing climate change, empowering women, and fostering peace in Kenya. Panelists shared inspiring strategies and solutions, showcasing Kenya’s conservancy model as a blueprint for sustainable development and environmental protection. ?? Celebrating the Go Blue Programme's Successes! ?? Today we held the final event of the Italian component of the Go Blue Kenya Programme, funded by the European Union and realized by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo with technical support of CIHEAM Bari. Attendees included the Ambassador of Italy Roberto Natali, the Governors of Lamu and Kilifi Counties, Issa Timamy and Gideon Maitha Mung'aro, representatives from the coastal counties, from the European Union, AICS Nairobi representatives led by the Director Giovanni Grandi, and local community leaders. With €4.75 million in funding over four years, the initiative has empowered the artisanal fishing and cassava sectors in Kenya, enhancing local economies. Key milestones include: - Soko Samaki app for fish traceability launched - 50 boats + related fishing equipment provided to fisherfolk - 1700+ fisherfolk trained - 3 solar-powered cold chain systems with ice machines built - 3 solar-powered cassava processing plants built. This initiative has truly created waves of opportunity for Kenya’s coastal communities! Delegation of The European Union to Kenya

?? Empowering small-scale farmers in Kilifi ?? As part of the conclusion ceremony of the Go Blue Kenya Programme, the community of Malanga celebrated today the inauguration of a new cassava processing plant. The event was presided by representatives from Kilifi County Government, including Mr. Safari Ziro Director of Agriculture, together with Mr. Alexandre Baron from the European Union in Kenya, with representatives from Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo - Sede di Nairobi and CIHEAM Bari. The solar-powered plant, provided through the Italian component of Go Blue, was built in collaboration with the County Government and donated to local farmers to support the processing of agricultural products. Over 100 farmers will be able to produce their own cassava flour through the facility, creating another pathway for farmers to enter new markets, increase their income, and preserve their products longer. Go Blue Kenya Programme celebrates another milestone with the coastal communities! Kwale Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo and Delegation of The European Union to Kenya Deputy Ambassador Ondrej Simek inaugurated today the new solar-powered cold chain systems installed for the fisherfolk of Kibuyuni (Kwale County), including a cold room and an ice production machine providing essential access to ice that will help preserve fish freshness even further, extend storage time, and increase market opportunities. This addition will significantly boost income stability and reduce waste With improved facilities, the provision of new fishing boats and equipment, and after having received comprehensive training, Kibuyuni’s fishing community is now empowered to sustainably grow their livelihoods. The activity is part of the Italian component of the Go Blue Programme, funded by the European Union and realized by Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo. It aims to enhance productivity and competitiveness within the fisheries value chains.
