Saving Abravanel Hall was a collaborative effort led by diverse voices, including Utah Symphony musicians, a 50,000-signature Change.org petition, and County Council member Jim Bradley. Even renowned composer John Williams joined the chorus demanding that this iconic 20th century modernist building be preserved. Last week the National Register of Historic Places officially accepted the nomination of Abravanel Hall. While the listing does not impose restrictions on property owners, it does heighten awareness and protection by opening doors to tax incentives, grants, and resources for preservation efforts. AIA Utah contributed by writing two letters to Salt Lake City and County Councils highlighting the significance of Abravanel Hall. This iconic piece of 20th Century modernist architecture was designed by Frank Ferguson, a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and founder of the highly respected Utah design firm, FFKR. CANstruction is a charity event using the creative spirit of a design competition to aid in the fight against hunger. Seven teams designed and built structures made entirely out of canned food. At the end of the exhibition all of the food is donated to the Utah Food Bank. Now that the structures are built it's time to visit 111 Main, 95 State and the Link to view these masterpieces and cast your vote for People's Choice! Purchase as many $1 votes as you like. All monetary donations will be split between the Utah Food Bank and Utahns Against Hunger. Voting ends on November 19th. Cast your vote: https://ow.ly/40LB50U6FrS
