More than a 1000 Unreinforced Masonry (URM) buildings in Seattle are vulnerable to damage or collapse during an earthquake if not seismically retrofitted. "Understanding Unreinforced Masonry (URM): Navigating Codes, Regulations, Cost and Incentives", the first session of our 2025 Code Download education series, will delve into the evolving landscape of URM seismic retrofit requirements. Day 1 will cover the recent adoption of Seattle’s code for recognition of URM retrofits, the new alternate method for retrofit, and updates to the city’s official URM database. Day 2, the speakers will discuss the costs associated with compliant retrofit scopes of work, existing incentives that may be held reduce these costs, and updates on the city of Seattle’s process to develop additional incentives.
