A Chapter of the American Institute of Architects

关于我们

The American Institute of Architects - Long Island Chapter The American Institute of Architects has been the leading professional membership association for licensed architects, emerging professionals, and allied partners since 1857. The AIA serves as the voice of the architecture profession and a resource for our members in service to society. The organization carries out its goal through advocacy, information, and community. In many ways, the AIA serves as an advocate of the architectural profession and promoting design excellence and outstanding professional achievement through various awards programs and promotional efforts at National, State, and Local levels. The American Institute of Architects provides a community in which architects can thrive. AIA Long Island a Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, has over 600 members, including architects, associates, and professional affiliates. This site offers resources for AIA Long Island Chapter members and anyone seeking information about architects and their colleagues in the design and building profession in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Mission The AIA Long Island Chapter’s mission is to support our members, advance the profession of Architecture and to promote its value to society. Architects who are members of the AIA have numerous opportunities to continue professional training, timely access to information on new building materials and technologies and, perhaps most important, ongoing, collegial relationships with other AIA members who include the most skilled practitioners in the nation.

Join the AIA Long Island chapter this Wednesday at the office of H2M architects + engineers to earn 2 LU/HSW credits learning about Electronic Leak Detection for Roofing, Waterproofing and the Building Envelope and Electronic Leak Detection: Lessons Learned From ELD Testing and Continuous Monitoring. Presented by: Shaun Katz, CSI, AIA Member, Product Line Manager, Deltec Systems. DATE: February 5, 2025 Time: 6pm-9pm Location: H2M architects + engineers 538 Broadhollow Road Melville, NY Refreshments will be served The failure to detect and correct membrane defects during and as soon as possible after its installation can cause premature failure of the membrane. Problems include design deficiencies, faulty application of the membrane system and damage by subsequent trades. Roof designs incorporating a waterproof membrane under overburden such as a vegetative roof, insulation layer, wear-course, or topping slab greatly exacerbate the problem of leak locating. This abstract presents the new ASTM Standards D7877 Guide and D3281 Practice which addresses the need for a systematic procedure to test, verify and monitor the integrity of waterproof membranes using electronic conductance measurement methods to locate leaks in exposed or covered waterproof membranes. The methods described are used on both conventional and protected roofs and are particularly useful for roof designs that incorporate a waterproofing membrane under a green roof, wear-course, or topping slab where direct inspection of the roof membrane is difficult or impossible. This course will cover Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) testing methods used for quality assurance of roofing and waterproofing membranes. Participants will learn about the principles outlined in the ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231 and will be able to identify which assemblies are compatible with electronic testing and active monitoring. ENJOY A LIVE DEMONSTRATION!
