AI Safety Asia (AISA) is a global non-profit dedicated to the international governance of safe AI by Asia, starting in Southeast Asia. Our goal is to mitigate catastrophic AI risks, reduce suffering from AI harms, and foster human flourishing by identifying harmonising levers on transnational cooperation for safe and governed AI across the Asia continent. Starting within and to Southeast Asia, AISA aims to bridge the Global North-South gaps through governance capacity-building by advancing local talent, conducting actionable policy research, and facilitating intergenerational dialogue on AI safety.     The countdown continues for the upcoming Phnom Penh-Dili-Myanmar Roundtable on March 3rd! ?? Join us and hear Siriwat William Chhem's insights on AI in Cambodia. RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gncJzesM Siriwat is an advisor, a consultant and a former think tank director with expertise in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) and cyberdiplomacy. His professional background includes board positions, executive roles, advisory work and consulting engagements across government, industry and academia. He is currently the co-founder and president of the AI Forum, an advisor at BowerGroupAsia, and an advisor and adjunct assistant professor of AI at CamTech University. Siriwat was founding director of the Asian Vision Institute Center for Inclusive Digital Economy, where he led a team of 50 members, directed the publication of two books and 80 policy papers and initiated national research projects and capacity-building programs. In addition, he was an advisor to the Council for the Development of Cambodia and appointed chairman of the Digital Transformation Unit. Siriwat was also a digital business consultant at Phnom Penh Commercial Bank, where he developed digital business strategy for financial services. Siriwat holds a Bachelor of Science, majoring in chemistry, physics and environmental science from the University of British Columbia; a Master of Arts in cyberdiplomacy from the Pannasastra University of Cambodia; and a master’s in digital technology management, specializing in AI, from the Bologna Business School of the University of Bologna. He is a Ph.D. candidate in global AI leadership at the Pannasastra University of Cambodia. He is also a board member of the World Digital Chamber and a member of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers.

    Happy to announce Barani Maung Maung will be one of the speakers at the upcoming Phnom Penh-Dili-Myanmar Roundtable on March 3rd. RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gncJzesM Barani Maung Maung is a tech policy and safety expert from Myanmar. Barani spent over 3 years at Meta, focusing on hate speech and harassment policy, and led crisis management efforts for elections, coups, and riots. Afterwards, she joined the Oxford Internet Institute, where she pursued research on Generative AI safety in the Global Majority. Barani now works as an Online Safety Policy Lead for Hate Speech at Ofcom, the UK's official online safety regulator.

    We are pleased to introduce our moderator for the upcoming Phnom Penh-Dili-Myanmar Roundtable on March 3rd. RSVP here: https://lnkd.in/gncJzesM Yonah Welker is a public technologist with work encompassing algorithms, emerging technologies, and policies, addressing society, human capacity, designated groups and spectrums such as social, expressive and human-centered AI, robotics, emerging learning, work, health, public and economic solutions. It includes the co-creation of emerging technologies and algorithms, screening, evaluating and cooperating with national, public and private projects, cohorts, ecosystems and funds, contributing suggestions to repositories and frameworks. Prior to it, Yonah Welker was co-founder of Hardwaretech think tank (2006<), cocreated and screened tech ventures, projects and cohorts, served as an evaluator and expert for technology transfer and innovation ecosystems, including funds, authorities, EU-Commission funded projects, curated initiatives of AI for humanity, humanitarian and cross-national initiatives. Yonah Welker has provided over a hundred appearances and commentary, addressing social technologies and policies. The comments were featured by the WH and UN-related institutions and initiatives, OECD, national institutes, reports and outlets

RSVP now so you don't miss it: https://lnkd.in/g5Zx7uvb We are pleased to introduce our panel speakers for the roundtable: Isyrah Fahmi Osman, Danh NGUYEN, and Alex Read Isyrah Fahmi Osman is the Head of Research and Development at Cyber Security Brunei (CSB), where he leads initiatives in AI-driven cybersecurity, secure-by-design software development, and emerging threat mitigation. He is a member of the Brunei Working Group on AI Governance and Ethics, actively contributing to the development of the Guide on AI Governance and Ethics for Brunei Darussalam, ensuring responsible and secure AI adoption. With extensive experience in AI development and cybersecurity, he specializes in AI risk management, including deepfake detection, adversarial AI threats, and secure AI implementation. Fahmi is also an advocate for AI awareness and security, conducting training sessions and awareness campaigns on the risks of AI, particularly in combating AI-driven threats. Danh is a legal and public policy expert in the fields of technology-media-telecom, AI governance and personal data protection in Vietnam, Africa, and Southeast Asia. He started his legal career at Baker Mckenzie, YKVN, and held leading positions at Viettel Africa and Deloitte Consulting Southeast Asia. He is supporting the local law-in-tech community by establishing the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management's Alumni Legal Club and the local tech-in-law community by founding the VietLegalTech.Org. Alex Read is the strategic and technical advisor on parliamentary development for UNDP in Lao PDR. He has worked in Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia for over 13 years in the ASEAN region. Alex specializes in parliamentary development and emerging technologies. He has led digitalization initiatives with the parliaments of Myanmar and Lao PDR and has authored policy papers and an online newsletter on the intersection of AI and parliamentary governance.

At FPT Corporation, Nguyen leads AI literacy & STEM education programs and researches AI standards in the education systems. Outside of the classroom, they dabble in tech policy, write explainers on AI research, and mentor Vietnam's robotics team. Dr.Hoda A.Alkhzaimi will serve as the moderator for the panel discussion. Dr. Al Khzaimi is a?Research Assistant Professor?at?NYU Abu Dhabi,?Associate Vice Provost for Research Translation & Entrepreneurship, and?Director of EMARATSEC?and the?Center for Cyber Security. With deep expertise in?cryptology, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, she has led national and international security initiatives in the UAE. Her work spans?Space, Aerospace, and UAV security, secure hardware design, and global semiconductor supply chains, along with a strong commitment to?tech equity and digital economy growth.
