?????????????? ???????? ?????????????? ???????? ?????????? ???????? ???????????? ?????? ???????????? ?????? At our Center, we certainly do, and we're still catching up with all the exciting things happening! ??? In the past few weeks, we’ve had the honor of hosting several inspiring speakers: ?? Valerie Chen from Carnegie Mellon University, gave a talk titled “Towards a science of human-AI teams” on?how AI models can support and complement human decision-makers, while addressing the practical challenges in deploying human-AI teams; ?? Mykola Pechenizkiy from Eindhoven University of Technology presented a talk where he shared his reflections on several key questions, such as "???? ???? ?????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???? ???????????????????? ??????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????????? ???? ?????? ????????????????'?? ??????? ???????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????? ?????? ???????????" The quest should be not only to develop better benchmarking of/for fairML, but also to put more efforts into the development of methods and tools for auditing fairML solutions, enabling different stakeholders to better understand and reason about how a fairML model generates predictions and where the potential unwanted biases come from. ?? Steven Euijong Whang from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology discussed the importance of improving aspects such as fairness, robustness, privacy, explainability, and value alignment, in addition to a model's accuracy. These objectives not only need to be satisfied during model training, but?in all the steps of machine learning, starting from the data. He covered three recent works from his lab towards this goal: (1) Falcon: fair active learning for data labeling (VLDB’24), (2) RC-Mixup: robust data augmentation for regression tasks (KDD’24), and (3) ERBench: an LLM hallucination benchmark using relational databases (NeurIPS’24 Spotlight). Alice in Algorithmia is an animated short that follows a day in the life of a regular person who navigates the pros and cons of AI. As she goes through her day, Alice moves from being surrounded and directed by this technology to regaining agency and control. This video is part of our educational and public engagement mission. Alice was created by Julia Stoyanovich and award-winning animator Alex Budovsky. It premiered last month at Tandon’s newest studio space,?NYU Tandon @ the Yard. RAI for Ukraine is seeking mentors for the 2024-25 academic year! The ongoing war in Ukraine has severely disrupted the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, significantly impacting university students by displacing many and interrupting their education. To address this, the Center for Responsible AI at NYU launched RAI for Ukraine, a fully remote academic research program in partnership with Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine. In the short term, the program aims to provide a sense of normalcy, and high-quality research opportunities, to students in Ukraine. Its long-term goal is to strengthen Ukraine’s research capacity in responsible AI.?50 Ukrainian students have participated in the program since its inception in 2022. Students worked with mentors from 10 academic institutions in the U.S., the U.K., France, The Netherlands, Portugal, and Hungary. We will enroll the next cohort in late September 2024. Students receive academic credit and competitive stipends. Fill out the mentorship interest form at https://lnkd.in/dfindTyx by August 31, 2024 to propose a research project. By mentoring RAI Research Fellows, you will play a crucial role in their academic and professional development. See RAI for Ukraine website at https://lnkd.in/dqGFKBPw for additional details. We are excited to hear from you! #ResponsibleAI #RAIforUkraine #ScienceForUkraine NYU Tandon School of Engineering Ukrainian Catholic University NYU Center for Data Science
