Today marks 1000 days of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Economists for Ukraine joined the AI for Good Foundation in the first days of the invasion, working on sanctions, economic policy, technological platforms, humanitarian aid & support for Ukraine's defenders. In 1000 days we have: 1. Collected thousands of testimonies on Svidok.org, Ukraine's largest archive of war stories—built and launched by our team. Testimonies from Svidok have been used as evidence in hundreds of war crime cases against Russia by Ukraine's Office of Prosecutor General & the International Criminal Court. 2. Built, deployed, and maintained MySyla.org, the largest aid matching platform that lets people find what they need and request aid. MySyla was the first international platform to be integrated with Ukraine's e-government platform Diia by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. 3. Given out over 70 fellowships to support Ukrainian academics. 4. Set up & operated 4 education centers for children surviving under harsh conditions in frontline cities (Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv). 5. Provided hundreds of thousands of dollars in humanitarian aid, including shoes, blankets, children's books, power banks, medical support, ect. 6. Provided support for Ukraine's defenders, including 1,100 tourniquets, thousands of evacuation blankets & warmers, hundreds of hemostatic bandages, & grants to in-country innovation centers working on drones. 7. Written nearly 100 op-eds, including in the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Project Syndicate, The Guardian, VoxEU, The National Interest, VoxUkraine, and more. 8. Written policy whitepapers on sanctions as part of the Yermak-McFaul International Working Group on Russian Sanctions. Written and published the “bible” on reconstruction of Ukraine—the Center for Economic and Policy Research book “Rebuilding Ukraine: Principles and Policies.” 9. Given nearly 100 interviews to Deutsche Welle, BBC, Bloomberg, Global News, News Nation, Voice of America, The Independent, CNN, Euronews, & more. 10. Ran awareness & fundraising events in the United States Senate, Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, University of California, Berkeley, University of San Francisco, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology highlighting the danger of Russian attacks against cultural heritage sites and the environment, with the war exacerbating the world's environmental crises. It is tragic that Russia's war has reached the 1000 day mark when the West had the resources to defeat Russian aggression in 2022. The cost of hesitation only rises with time. We will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes—to end this war in victory & just peace as soon as possible. If you would like to support us, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/egQMdu8j Thank you for your continued support, Economists for Ukraine leadership team Tatyana Deryugina, Anastassia Fedyk, Yuriy Gorodnichenko, James Hodson, Ilona Sologoub

Over 2.5 years into the war, our support for Ukraine remains unwavering. On October 17, Economists for Ukraine and the AI for Good Foundation hosted a special event at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York, in collaboration with the Consulate General Of Ukraine In New York, Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, and Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. We highlighted the environmental damage that Russian aggression has caused in Ukraine.? The event featured content from our Svidok project, presentations from our leadership members James Hodson and Anastassia Fedyk, and special remarks from Consul General of Poland Mateusz Sakowicz, Consul of Ukraine Vadim Tkachuk, and Ministers Mykola Tochytskyi and Svitlana Grynchuk. The event drew over 100 attendees, and together we raised $17K to deliver medical aid to the frontlines and support historical preservation through Svidok.org. The multimedia exhibit, mini-documentary, beautiful art auction, and Polish-Ukrainian banquet provided unique opportunities for attendees to connect with Svidok.org creators and cultural leaders, fostering unity and support for Ukraine. Thank you to the @Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York for hosting and all partners and attendees for making this event a success. Together, we continue to stand with Ukraine.

Economists for Ukraine and the AI for Good Foundation work closely with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. Russia is committing genocide not only against Ukrainian people, but also against Ukrainian culture. It is critically important to preserve. Our partnership with the Ministry of Culture brings valuable support to the Svidok Ukraine War Diaries project, the largest repository of ordinary Ukrainians’ experiences of the war. We firmly believe that every Ukrainian has a story worth sharing. Together we work to record and preserve these stories for historians and future generations of Ukrainians. The archive of war stories will be an invaluable resource to understand the war—the devastation it brought, the resilience, and the heritage of the people impacted—akin to eyewitness accounts during World War II. Economists for Ukraine and the AI for Good Foundation had the honor to welcome President Victor Yushchenko and First Lady Kateryna Yushchenko of Ukraine (2005–2010) to the Bay Area. We showcased the innovation ecosystem in the Bay Area—both at University of California, Berkeley Berkeley and in San Francisco—and our varied initiatives from Svidok.org war diaries platform and the Berkeley-Ukraine Innovation Hubs. After taking a moment to celebrate the work already done, we are ever more motivated to continue forging ahead. Economists for Ukraine and the AI for Good Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People. Economists for Ukraine co-founder Anastassia Fedyk met with Nariman Dzhelyal, the Deputy Head of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatars. Nariman was released from Russian captivity at the end of June, after being held as a political prisoner for three years. His resilience is truly inspiring. The world must not forget Crimea, and we must continue to fight until their native land is free!
