The Health Ministry, KP has expressed serious concerns following the confirmation of an Mpox case in Mardan. The Provincial Health Department has confirmed the first case of 2024, with the patient currently experiencing mild symptoms and quarantined at home. In response, immediate measures have been directed, including enhanced surveillance, contact tracing, and strict monitoring of those in contact with the patient. To further prevent the spread of the disease, border health services teams have been deployed at the Pak-Afghan border and airports to ensure the screening of all incoming passengers, particularly those showing symptoms. Mpox is a rare viral disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans and via human-to-human contact. Preventive measures are essential, such as avoiding contact with infected animals, maintaining good hand hygiene, and monitoring symptoms, especially if you have recently traveled to or reside in an affected region. The public and healthcare workers are urged to stay vigilant and adhere to the guidelines issued by the Department of Health. If you suspect any symptoms of Mpox, seeking immediate medical attention is crucial. Isolation wards are being set up for Mpox patients, and ongoing screenings, particularly for travelers from Gulf countries, are in place.
