How can we build a positive economic model for regenerative agriculture? ?? We've contributed to Deloitte's latest report, highlighting the financial challenges and opportunities experienced by farmers transitioning to regen practices, and emphasising the need for innovative solutions and collaboration to support farmers in this transition. Key takeaways: ?? While implementing regenerative practices can lead to a positive net profit impact for farmers after 3 to 5 years, agronomic and financial advice on regenerative agriculture roll-out is essential to optimising ROI. ?? With only ~2 to 6% of the total funding needs for regen ag in Europe currently being met, collaboration and sharing expertise between stakeholders is essential to develop fit-for-purpose funding and farmer support models. ?? Diverse financial tools are needed to support farmers during their transition, including innovative financing options, insurance products, procurement guidelines, and carbon credits. A particular mention must go to the Agreena farmers who took time out of their busy days to contribute to this report — their firsthand knowledge shaped these findings, ensuring the real-world challenges and opportunities of regen ag were highlighted. ?? What happens if soil gets tilled and releases the sequestered carbon? ?? ‘Any unanticipated disturbance will not invalidate the credited climate benefits; if a reversal does occur, the buffer covers the shortfall.’ Quantifying and creating high-quality carbon credits is the topic of our third blog in the ‘From credit to credibility’ series, looking at the details behind our Verra-registered AgreenaCarbon Project. Written by in-house experts Dr Marcos Alves, Dr Andrew Manderson and Dr Petros Georgiadis, this article walks you through the steps taken to ensure that our credits are of the highest integrity. 'The time to act is now' ?? Boston Consulting Group (BCG) have published a new article exploring the importance of soil, and its benefits to us all. We're featured as an innovator leveraging global carbon markets to finance the farmer transition to sustainable practices, highlighting the importance of our work in scaling regenerative agriculture across Europe. As the foundation of our food system, healthy soil is more than important - it's crucial. Our growing community of sustainability leaders recognise this, and are harnessing the power of regenerative agriculture to create a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable food system for all. Thanks to Peter Jonathan Jameson, S?ren Skovg?rd M?ller and Mikkel Pedersen for including us! ??

Beneath our feet lies an untapped solution to economic resilience and climate change. Healthy soil can be a game-changer for both economies and our planet! It can boost farm profits, make crops more resilient to unpredictable weather, and store carbon. But there's a catch: Getting there takes time, resources, and effort. That being said, it will be worth the investment. Using Denmark as an example, within 3-6 years, you can achieve a ~20-40% EBIT margin uplift by restoring soil health via regenerative farming. And by 2035 it can decrease emissions by 4 megatons of CO2e. Healthy soils will also make crops more resilient and bring ~30-40% higher yields years with severe weather events compared to crops cultivated through conventional farming practices. But farmers can't do it alone. To catalyze change, the entire value chain needs to be activated. It's important that the Agri-ecosystem, including regulators, banks, FMCGs, and input providers, support farmers with: ??Financial support to navigate the costly transition. ??Policies and regulations in place to unlock and support the value creation from healthy soils. ?? New partnerships across the Agri-value chain, as no single actor can meaningfully scale regenerative landscapes alone. ?? Advanced Measurement, Monitoring, Reporting, and Validation systems (MMRV) to track soil carbon and unlock economic incentives. Right now, we're only scratching the surface of what healthy soil can do for the planet and the economy. As highlighted in our latest article by Peter Jonathan Jameson, S?ren M?ller and Mikkel Pedersen, we need to invest in farmers to unlock this potential. When business leaders, investors, and policymakers support soil health, there are great benefits to reap. Read the full article to learn how to overcome the challenges and what to gain from scaling healthy soils. https://on.bcg.com/41rUrzg #BCGintheNordics

‘There is more life in a teaspoon of soil than humans on earth.’ ?? As sponsors of Somerset House's Soil exhibition, we were delighted to host a breakfast event at the historic setting, uniting farmers and corporates in celebration of the world under our feet. Alongside presentations from our CCO Frederik Aagaard, Deputy Director at Somerset House Trust Diana Spiegelberg, and Claire Catterall, the exhibition’s curator, guests heard from regenerative farmers Fraser Bush and Thomas Gent. Their insightful talk gave leaders from Barclays, Sainsbury's, GAIL's and many more a glimpse into the tangible impact of soil carbon investment. To hear more from Thomas, read ‘A farmer’s take on the Soil exhibition’ blog, on our website.?? https://lnkd.in/dZb7Mj3z #RegenerativeAgriculture #SoilCarbon #CarbonCredits

In a high-integrity soil carbon project, data verification is crucial.?? And with a 0% tolerance for overlap, field boundary detection is no exception. To ensure accurate field data and calculations, overlapping field boundaries — where newly added boundaries overlap with other fields in our programme — must be caught and corrected. This technical process is one of many that Katja Ravn van Overeem, Programme Analyst, Blayne Lees, Engineering Manager, and Ben Smith, Programme Data Lead, have pioneered. In their co-authored article, the trio reveal some of the processes that made AgreenaCarbon become the first agricultural cropland project to be registered under Verra’s VCS.
